Prologue

It was the final battle. Kagome clearly saw nearly complete Shikon no Tama on a necklace around Naraku's neck. She pulled an arrow and shot it at him. He sent some low-level youkai to make a shield of them.

"You are a coward, Naraku!" yelled the young miko.

"And you never forget to tell me that" he answered with a smirk, moving aside from Inuyasha's attack.

Kagome looked around the battle, searching for her friends. She found Sango protecting half-dead from poison Miroku. Kirara was seriously wounded, but she still tried to restrain Shippou from battle. Kouga fought with some new Naraku's detachments, and Inuyasha sent one attack after another trying to catch Naraku off guard.

'Things are becoming worse' Kagome thought, taking another aim at the youkai swarm that attacked Sango and Miroku. Her purifying arrow flew straight at them and they turned to dust.

'I must get to the jewel as soon as possible. Then I'll complete it and I'll make a wish. And all my friends will be safe and happy'.

Young miko saw her chance when Naraku was distracted by Inuyasha. She quickly ran to the evil hanyou. His barrier didn't stop her, and she was able to grab the rest of the Shikon no Tama. Her part of the jewel already was tightly clutched in her palm. Naraku never had a chance to throw her away. She combined two parts together with her powers, and the Shikon was whole and pure in a second. Bright light began to shine from it and everyone was blinded for a moment. The battle stopped. Not for all of them, though.

Naraku caught Kagome's throat in his hand. The girl gasped. She tightened her grip on the jewel.

"Give me the Shikon, miko" Naraku demanded. "Or I'll kill you!"

"Never! I'll purify you before my death!"

"Try".

'It's the end. My end. But I'll take Naraku with me!' decided Kagome, shutting her eyes and concentrating her power.

'It's the end. I know I won't make it. She's too powerful with this jewel' thought Naraku. 'But she won't make it either!'

Kagome's aura flared and she made her wish. The jewel glowed responding to it.

'I really don't want to die' was her last thought. As was Naraku's.
