A/N: This is my first Howl's Moving Castle fanfic, so go easy on me! This is my version if how Howl reacts when Sophie tells him that she's not pretty.
Disclaimer: I don't own Howl's Moving Castle.
"Even though…" Sophie paused. "Even though I'm not pretty, and all I'm good at is cleaning." Howl's eyes widened.
"Sophie! Sophie, you're beautiful!" He said firmly. A small tear fell down Sophie's cheek.
"No I'm not. I'm just a plain girl who owns a hat shop that nobody knows. I'm just a girl that nobody pays attention to." She said softly. She turned around, heading back to the cottage, when she felt a strong grip on her wrist. She felt herself being whipped around and finding herself staring straight into Howl's bright blue eyes. She had never seen Howl look so mad before.
"Sophie. Listen to me. You are beautiful. You're the most confident girl I know and don't ever listen to anybody who says you're not." The grip on Sophie's arms got tighter. More tears fell down her face. She was frightened. She had never seen him like this.
"Sophie, do you understand?!" he nearly shouted.
"Y-Yes." Sophie said, still crying. She felt herself being pulled into a hug; she hugged him back, teardrops staining his shirt. She cried onto his shoulder until there were no tears left. She looked up at him and smiled. He smiled back. Neither of them knew who moved first, but the next thing they knew their lips touched in a soft kiss and the rest of the world melted away.
