While Blaine is dancing with Brittany, Kurt walks out of the gym feeling the need to be on his own for a while.
What happened hurt him more than all the rest he's been through put together because not even when he was being daily tossed in the garbage did he feel so humiliated.
He sits on the steps of the gym and just watches the other students leaving.
He thinks about what has happened to Blaine at his old school and he tries not to get scared, tries to tell himself that it won't ever happen to him.
"Hey."
He glances back towards the metal door of the gym at the greeting and smiles at Puck.
"I don't know if anyone has ever told you this, but dude, you have the biggest balls ever," Puck says while he sits down next to Kurt.
Kurt scrunches up his nose. "Thanks, I guess." He looks at Puck for a moment before smiling again. "You look like John Travolta."
"Hey, not everyone has a gay brother who helps you not to suck."
"I didn't help Finn. Quinn told him what color his bow tie had to be and Rachel helped him with Quinn's corsage."
Puck arks an eyebrow at the mention of Rachel's name. "That girl is crazy."
Kurt just nods before asking, "What are you doing out here?"
"I'm kind of freaking out." Puck hesitates for a moment, looking at Kurt with seriousness before asking, "Do you think I have lost my balls?"
Kurt's eyes widen. "What?"
"Jacob said that Lauren has my balls. No one is afraid of me anymore, and I'm not a badass now! When I started dating Lauren, I didn't think about it but this is actually worse than when I shaved my mohawk."
"Puck..." Kurt trails off because he seriously doesn't know what to say to that. He sighs heavily and crosses his arms in front of his chest tilting his head to the side, studying the boy sitting next to him. "You're different from the boy who used to bully me," he ends up saying.
Puck nods. "I know that. I wanted to change that but this... Man I feel like while I wasn't watching I kind of got lost."
"Yeah, tell me about it," Kurt quietly whispers and Puck looks at him curiously and Kurt has to look away. He clears his throat a little and asks, "Do you like your new self?"
"I don't know my new self."
"Well, do you want to broke up with Lauren then?"
Puck shrugs. "I didn't want to be elected Prom King with her because I didn't want to lose my reputation or what's left of it." He looks at Kurt for a few moments before admitting, "She really wanted to win but when Figgins said Karofsky's name, I was happy because it wasn't me."
"Oh." Kurt just looks at him once again unable to come up with anything to say.
They just sit there in silence for a while, each lost in his own thoughts. Then Kurt quietly says, "When I had to dance with Karofsky, I... I wanted to force him to do something he wasn't ready for, and he ran away. I made him run away. I guess, tonight, we both acted a little selfishly."
Puck furrows his brow and studies Kurt trying to understand what he may be talking about but before he can ask anything, Kurt gets up, brushes his kilt from the dirt that may have been on the steps of the gym's entrance and looks down at him with a small smile.
"Whatever you decide to do," he says taking a deep breath, "just be yourself."
Puck manages to smile back at him before Kurt turns around and walks back inside the gym. He sits there for a little while longer, thinking about what Kurt said and trying to come up with a decision. When he gets up and walks back in the gym, he still doesn't know what he wants to do, but at least, someone for the first time in a long while, probably his entire life, actually cared enough to give him an advice and Puck swears to himself that he's going to really think about it.
