Things were rather quiet at the NCIS headquarters. So the director decided that today would be the perfect time to finish the much delayed paperwork...

McGee walked into the laboratory with a stack of folders tucked under his arm and two jumbo cups of Caf-Pow in the other.

"Abbs! I've got this huge pile of paperwork that Vance wants you to finish! Hey Abbs, where are you?"

McGee started to head towards Abby's desk when he stopped and noticed a glass aquarium sitting on the lab table.

He set the two cups of Caf-Pow on a nearby counter and approached the cage for a closer inspection. McGee was caught by surprise when he saw little mice scurrying around inside.

"I see you found my little Gibblets! Aren't they cute?" Abby announced while entering the lab.

A startled McGee jumped at the sound of her voice.

"Abbs, I've been looking all over for you," McGee said while catching his breath and handing her the stack of papers, "by they way… what's with the mice?"

"Oh well, I saved these guys from becoming the food of Vance's son's pet snake Buster…" Abby answered. "Actually, they were donated by this school to our forensics department because..."

"Their breeding program got out of control?" McGee added.

"Yeah, but they were, like, so cute and not ugly like those red-eyed white mice. I had to convince the guy to let me have the cage in order to save them from becoming guinea pigs for a case in Forensics 2… he finally gives it to me, and then Vance suddenly comes in and is all 'Buster needs those' and then…"

"It's okay, Abbs, I understand." McGee quickly replied.

Abby breathed a sigh of relief and walked over to the cage (and stopped by for a cup of Caf-Pow on the way)

"Oh look! Tony's just discovered the wheel!"

"…Tony?" McGee wondered out loud as he watched a tan colored mouse racing inside the wheel.

"Y'see, I named all of them after members of our team!" Abby replied enthusiastically as she eyed the cage.

"Let's see, there's Gibbs" Abby said while motioning to a grey mouse in the corner.

"Over there, we have Ducky and Ziva…" Abby continued while pointing to a pair of black mice.

"And don't forget Jimmy!" she concluded by beaming at a white mouse with grey patches over his eyes.

McGee shrugged.

"Don't worry, McGee. I didn't forget you!" Abby added while pointing to a rather chubby mouse eating corn.

McGee simply returned a frown and turned his glance back to the cage, and Abby headed towards her desk to fill out the stack of paperwork.

A few minutes later McGee turned his head towards Abby's desk and called, "Hey, Abbs… what are those pink things underneath Gibbs?"

"Huh?" Abby asked with a puzzled look on her face.

She walked back over to the lab table and peered inside.

"Ahhh! Gibbs just had babies!"

THE END

note: This is actually based on a real-life experience. We have a mouse named Gibbs at school (now named Gibbita) who did have babies.
