The Ugly Sister - 1973
"Bellatrix! Narcissa! Are you two ever going to come out?"
Cygnus Black stood at the bottom of the staircase, waiting for his daughters to emerge from their rooms. This was the first official photo of his daughters since Andromeda had been disowned just over a year earlier.
He wasn't particularly worried. His eldest daughter, Bellatrix, had made a good marriage to Rodolphus Lestrange. He was happy with that. Narcissa, his youngest, fresh out of Hogwarts, was the apple of his eye at the moment. She was engaged to Lucius Malfoy, who was a prominent figure in the wizarding community already, despite being only eighteen. Obviously his father's connections had helped, but the boy held great promise, and Cygnus didn't think Narcissa could have picked a better husband.
The door finally opened, and his daughters sauntered out of the room, and down the stairs. Bella wore a red strapless dress, while Cissa wore a blue version. The dresses looked completely different on the sisters, so it wasn't even noticeable.
They followed their father into the ballroom, oblivious to the fact that he'd been lecturing them the whole way there. They'd both been off in their own little worlds. Bella worrying about whether she should be having a child or not, and Cissa worrying about her upcoming nuptials.
"Hello girls," Henry, the photographer, greeted them. He'd been their photographer for as long as they could remember. Obviously, they'd needed to get some new photos. The last time Aunt Walburga had come over, she'd blasted every photo of Andromeda off the wall.
"Hello Henry," chorused Bellatrix and Narcissa.
"You two are looking exceptionally beautiful today," he complimented them, in the only way he seemed to know how; like the portly grandfather he resembled so much.
"Thank you," said Narcissa, making use of the chaise lounge sitting there by draping herself onto it.
Henry suddenly smiled.
"Narcissa, my dear, you really are a photographers dream."
Narcissa beamed at Henry, trying not to ruin her 'dream' pose.
"Bellatrix, now, if you would sit down on the floor, and lean on the couch, that would be wonderful."
Bella sunk to the floor, arranging herself beautifully. These girls were made to be photographed.
"So where are the other halves?"
"They're upstairs, making themselves pretty," supplied Bella. "They should be down soon."
"Oh good. I can't wait to photograph Mr Malfoy with you, Narcissa love."
Henry had always been more friendly with Narcissa, mainly because he'd worked with her for the longest. Well, she'd taken a shine to him when she'd been just a toddler, and it continued into her childhood and then teens.
The sudden thudding of shoes on the staircase signalled that the boys were coming down the stairs.
Cygnus left the room to usher the boys in, and it was only then that Henry worked up the courage to ask the girls about Andromeda. He'd heard that she'd been disowned, but he didn't know the circumstances.
"So, my dears, what happened to the third sister?"
Bellatrix gave Henry an ugly smirk.
"The black sheep of the family? She married that mudblood, Ted Tonks. It doesn't matter. The photos are going to look better without her anyway, she was the ugly sister after all."
After that comment, the rest of the afternoon flew by, and Henry stayed silent. He wondered what Narcissa thought on the matter, but he wasn't game to ask.
