Wes had never been a big fan of Valentine's Day. This year, however, promised to be different. This year he had met Jen, the only person he knew who made the idea of celebrating 'Buy Your Significant Other's Affection Day' seem... actually almost romantic. Spending half his paycheck on candy and flowers would be worth it if it earned him one of those rare smiles of hers...But he never had a chance to find out, because Jen had 'volunteered' him, Trip, and Katie for helping out at the local floral store. Which meant Wes spent his Valentine's Day handing out complimentary roses to couple after couple, each one more sickeningly happy than the next. And to make matters worse, Katie and Trip would not shut up about how adorable said couples looked. Or how cute the decorations were. Or in Trip's case, how great it was that they got free chocolate.
Speaking of chocolate...
There was a good chance that they had some left-- the manager had been so impressed with their work, she'd given them some extra. Sure, it would be a day late, but better late than never, right?
He found Katie in the office. "Hey, do we still have some of that leftover chocolate in the fridge?"
Katie tapped the side of her face thoughtfully. "Yeah. Trip was helping himself to some last I checked."
That was all the chocolate they had... and considering Trip's bottomless pit of a stomach...
Wes was racing up the stairs, taking two at a time with Katie following, asking what was going on. He had no time to answer as he bolted into the room that served as their kitchen--
And Trip was lounging at the table, empty plate at his side, chocolate smeared around his face.
Wes couldn't speak, so Katie approached him. "Trip? You okay?"
He smiled lazily at her. "Best holiday ever, Katie. Best holiday ever."
He watched silently as Katie hovered over him, trying to clean his face with a spare napkin... and officially gave up. At least they'd had a happy day after Valentine's Day.
