Lindsay was always known for being the blonde, dumb, cheerleader from Total Drama. But she wasn't always like that. She used to brunette, slightly average intelligence, soccer player when she was younger. But that all changed when she allowed her mother's greed and vainness to take over her life.
She was just five years old at the time, she was cleaning out the basement with her mother when she got a rude awaking.
"Lindsay, look here. Clover's first ever modeling shoot, I do wish you got her good looks." Her mother said pointing at a picture of her older sister,
"But aren't I pretty the way I am?"
Olga laughed and smiled, "No sweetie. I mean look at your hair it's terrible and ugly." Olga played with Lindsay's light brown hair, "Your feet are simply too big. Just simply too much like a giant's feet."
"But.. why isn't brown hair and big feet pretty?"
Olga laughed again, "All the princess have blonde hair and small feet, don't you want to be a princess? You can't be a princess with ugly hair."
Lindsay looked down to the floor, tears welling in her face. "But I like how I look, why can't I just stay the way I am?"
"Cause you've gotta be a Martin, a Martin is always a blonde little girl. To be a Martin you must be girly, model, compete in pageants, and cheer instead of soccer. You want to be a Martin, right sweetie?"
Now this was something Lindsay always dreamed of, to be accepted as a Martin. To be like her sisters, her beautiful, well liked, popular sisters. "I really do want to be a Martin."
As Lindsay watched her mother furiously scrub in the blonde dye she began to think of how much easier life would be after she truly became a Martin. "You'll finally be a Martin to everyone."
And just like that as Lindsay looked at her blonde locks she knew that she had chosen the wrong thing.
As she watched her proud family cheer her on at cheerleading events, she remembered the times where she was alone at her soccer matches waiting for someone to come to see her excel in a sport at such a young age. When her parents would pride themselves on they seemingly perfect daughter, she could only feel guilt for lying to be something that she wasn't.
You are not being yourself. She heard herself say whenever she would go shopping with her mother and sisters, This isn't you would haunt her as she finished a cheerleading route, He's cheating on you would come in whenever she and Tyler would cuddle up and she would smell someone else's perfume on him.
Lying to herself to make other things work, to make her social life seem perfect, making her relationship with her mother perfect, and being the perfect dumb blonde cheerleader.
She wanted to seem like that all her life, she always wanted to be like her sisters and her mother. Beautiful, happy, and perfect. But when she become all the things she ever wanted to be she only seemed to become someone she didn't even know. She become someone who cared what people were thinking about her when she would wear a new outfit, she cared if someone was talking behind her back, she would become sick to her stomach if someone didn't like her causing her to try and make them like her.
"A Martin was everything you ever wanted." She reminded herself everyday looking into her hollow eyes, "Be happy, don't be so ungrateful." Would follow as she applied makeup to cover all her imperfections.
She finished her makeup and smiled, she looked just like all her sisters and her mother.
"Your finally your mother's daughter."
