HI WORLD OKAY SO it's been years since I've been here and I literally can't remember for the life of me what my previous account was and i really wanted to upload this for the fun of it so yeah. I don't really know where I wanna go with this it just came while I was half-buried in textbooks so suggestions would be good XD oh yeah and this takes places after Asami finds out that her dad is an equalist.

"After everything she's been through, she needs you now more than ever, Mako."

The words sting on her tongue.

His eyes narrow slightly in determination, and he turns. He walks over to where Asami is standing by the airship's window and places a hand on her shoulder. She looks up at him, and he pulls her into his arms.

Korra looks away. She can't help but clench her fists tight, the bones of her knuckles threatening to tear through skin. She can't help the slow burning ache spreading throughout her chest. She can't help but feel that Mako holding Asami like that is wrong on so many levels.

It should be me.

I should be there for her.

She spares a glance back and regrets it almost immediately because Mako's holding Asami's chin and he's tipping her head back and he's leaning in and-

Korra walks away quietly but quickly. She'd seen them kiss and do other disgustingly romantic stuff dozens of times, but instead of getting used to them the clenching in her stomach always seemed to get worse.

She likes Asami, she's sure of that. She doesn't know when it started, but she knows that somewhere along the way Mako exited her dreams and Asami took his place. She's dreamt of Asami asking her out on dates, sharing a bed with Asami doing nothing but cuddling, Asami pushing her against a wall, Asami's lips on hers...

They're happy dreams. But Korra always wakes up from these dreams feeling anything but happy.

Mako and Asami are a perfect couple, made for each other. Korra is far from perfect.

She makes her way down to the airship's gym, needing to wreck something (or many things).

She doesn't see her friend turning her head away from the firebender, detaching herself from his arms.

She doesn't see the way those emerald eyes dim in their brilliance as they watch her depart.
