Just keep walking, and never look back. The cold rain just keeps on pouring down without end. It mixes with my tears as I walk, starving for the entire week. In the sky, the pitch black clouds don't leave a trace of the moonlight. I don't know how far I've gone, but there is no turning back.
Why did this have to happen to me? My stomach growling from being deprived of food. Yet, the loud roar of endless rain drops and thunder cover it up so that not even I can hear it. No one would be out in the middle of the night in a storm. But I can't stop, no matter where I am.
They never cared about me. I still don't understand what I am. The cold of the night and starvation cause me to cough loudly and makes me cry even more. I feel so weak, I could just tremble to the ground and lie there until morning. That would be good to just lie down and forget about everything this cruel world has to offer and pay me.
Healing won't work. Even if it did, I'd rather die and leave this dreadful life. I think about these things as I walk slowly down the empty road. Maintaining my breathing is difficult from just walking aimlessly all day and night.
I couldn't take it at the orphanage any more. No one would want me because I'm not like the other children. I'm not human. Even if I am a fantastic healer, they wouldn't want to adopt me ever since I came into this world. So I just left and they won't even care. It's as if I wasn't there in the first place.
Finding food was the hardest and I barely got any to keep my alive. It's surprising that I can stand on my two feet at the moment. I hid in the shadows of the alleys and travelled so far, I must be in another city.
I look around me to find Western style houses that are beautiful and huge. How lucky these people are to live in such luxury. I just keep walking, not really knowing where I want to go. But I can't take it anymore.
My knees tremble to the ground and my upper body falls with it. I just want to die since there was nothing to live for when I entered this world.
"Little girl! Are you ok?!" A woman's voice yells in worry the second I fell to the ground. "Hello? Hello?!" I see a dark-green haired woman approached me and shook me to check if I was alright.
"Hmm? Who... are you?" I manage to stutter a few words as she helps me get up.
"I'm Aoi. Please come inside. It's freezing out here." I get to my feet and she walks me inside a huge mansion. It's just stunning on the interior. My eyes widen at how beautiful and big the space is.
"I'm so hungry, and cold." I hold my stomach that's roaring for food. She dries me off as I spoke but it was hard to lift up my arms since I was just too weak.
"Here's a blanket and come with me to the kitchen. May I ask what your name is and how old you are?" she asks politely, wrapping a soft blanket around me and leading me to the state of the art kitchen.
"Oh yeah, of course. I'm Naomi and 14 years old. Thank you so much for bringing me in." I say so coughing, managing to put a smile on my face that has been hidden for ages. She starts to prepare a drink that smells fantastic.
"Not a problem, Naomi. Here's some tea and cookies." She places a platter with wonderful smelling cookies and steaming tea that I can't even describe.
"Thank you, Aoi. It's wonderful, I've never tasted something so delicious." I say after eating almost all the cookies on the dish.
"You're very welcome. But why were you outside in this dangerous storm at night all alone?" She sits across from me with wonder in her eyes.
"I'm an orphan. I've been in the orphanage ever since I was a baby. I was entered into this world as a mage. Healing is all I could do but my healing magecraft is very strong. But no one would adopt me because... I'm not human. I'm homunculus, as you can tell." Every time I think of this, I'm just saddened. "So I couldn't take it anymore. No one noticed me any way. Early in the week, I sneaked out and just ended up all the way here, barely even eating."
"Naomi, that's horrible. I-I feel so sorry for you." She says forming a frown on her face.
A silence falls while I continue eating cookies and gulping down the tea. But it is interrupted by a screaming voice. A baby's voice crying, a girl not that loud coming from a room not too far away in the mansion. The crying ends within a couple of seconds as we hear footsteps approaching from the floor above us.
A man appears behind the wall of the stairs with a young baby girl in his hands almost asleep, nearly one year old. His eyes widen the second he sees me. It's probably not because I'm a stranger in the house, but because I'm not ordinary.
"A homunculus?" He immediately knew I was the instant he saw my long bright-silver hair, pale skin and ruby-red eyes. "Aoi... Who is this...?" He asks the woman in front of me. Is this her husband and the girl is her daughter?
"This is Naomi. I saw her collapse outside a couple of minutes ago and I couldn't just leave her there, Tokiomi. She's from an orphanage far away from here and escaped after being there for her whole life. She is a healing mage, as well." My eyebrows furrow as if apologizing.
"I'm sorry if I woke your child up. Thank you, Aoi, for everything, but I don't think you would want a stranger you just met to be here any longer. I should just leave." I say getting up and heading for the door.
"Naomi, please wait. You can't go outside in this storm in the middle of the night. We can let you stay here for the night." The one who appealed to me was not Aoi, but the man named Tokiomi.
"I... Uh..." I didn't know what to say. I barely even know these people but they feel sorry for me. Well, if they are offering me not to go back outside to the pitch-blackness, then I could stay for at least one night. "Thank you so much!"
"Let me formally introduce us. I am Tokiomi Tohsaka. I see you have clearly met my wife, Aoi. This is our daughter Rin, the next heir to the Tohsaka lineage." I have heard of the Tohsaka family for their remarkable magecraft.
"I am so thankful for your kindness! If there is anything I can do to help you, I will." I put a smile on my face that has never appeared before. I could not be any more honoured or thankful for them.
The guest room is prepared and they gave me a short silky robe to sleep in. It is a little large but it is too comfortable to remove. I head to the room after going to the restroom.
"Naomi." I hear a tired voice whispering a couple of feet in back of me. I turn around and find Tokiomi going into his room but stopped after he said my name.
"Yes? Is there something wrong?" I ask politely slightly tilting my head to the side.
"Have you ever heard of the Holy Grail?" The Holy Grail? I have never heard those words in my life. This is so sudden but does he expect me to know about such a thing?
"No, I apologize."
"Oh... That's alright. Have a good rest." He says and enters the bedroom and closing the door slowly and silently.
That was odd. I turn around a go to the room and into the bed. I instantly fall asleep to the coziness of the bed and warmth of the bed, something I was never used to. The fact that people care and respect me no matter who or what I am fills me with joy and creates tears of happiness in my eyes.
This is a new start for me. I think to myself, falling asleep with a radiant smile on my face.
