Harry stared absentmindedly at the fire burning in the fireplace before him, his eyes glazed over not at all seeing the orange and red flames flickering before his eyes. His mind was focused on something much more important. Where is she? he asked himself, standing for what seemed like the millionth time and began pacing around the common room. After pacing for several minutes, he had decided to go looking. As he started for the portrait hole, wand in hand, it suddenly opened and in fell Ginny Weasley looking very disheveled and annoyed. She jumped at the sight of Harry with his wand in hand. "Merlin's beard Harry, you scared me," she said as she clutched her chest. "Put that wand away before you hu—," but before Ginny could finish, Harry had captured her mouth in a suffocating kiss.
After a minute, Ginny broke away and stared up into the green eyes of her very handsome yet very protective boyfriend. Harry smiled down at her. "Where were you?" he said, concern etched in his handsome features. "It's half past one in the morning. You weren't at dinner. Where have you been?" Ginny thought for a moment about how to tell Harry where she had been. It's not that she was ashamed, but knowing Harry and how protective he could be she knew he would not take the news well. Bracing herself for an argument she replied tentatively. "I was with, um, Draco Malfoy…" she said without looking into his eyes. Harry's insides started to boil, but he asked very calmly, "Why were you with Malfoy until one thirty?" Ginny, still afraid to look up, said very quietly, "He was tutoring me in Potions. Snape told me if I was to pass his class, I would need a tutor. He just helped me in Potions Harry. Nothing happened." Harry lifted her chin with his hand so that she was looking him in the eyes. "You could have asked Hermione for help, Gin. She's better in Potions than Malfoy will ever be," he told her gently. "Besides, it's not that I don't trust you. I just don't trust Malfoy with you. Do you understand?" Ginny shook her head even though she knew at least somewhat what Harry was talking about.
Harry sighed and turned towards the fire. He took a deep breath and took the plunge. "I love you Ginny," he said turning towards her. "Malfoy knows that and because he knows that he offered to tutor you in Potions to get close to you. Do you see why that scares me?" he asked grabbing her hands. Ginny's eyes went wide with realization. "But Harry," she protested, "there's never been any proof that Malfoy was behind those attacks two weeks ago. What makes you think— " "Because I know him!" Harry said angrily. "His entire family are Death Eaters. His best friends are Death Eaters. Ginny, who's to say that he's not one himself?" Ginny freed her hands from Harry's, walked over to one of the overstuffed armchairs, and sank into it. Harry followed it and sat at her feet facing her. Ginny broke the silence first. "Harry I know you love me and I know you're scared for me, but you shouldn't be. All you have to go on are gut feelings, not hard evidence." She leaned forward and kissed him on his forehead. "So until you have proof, I am going to continue my tutoring with Draco. I am too tired to argue with you anymore tonight Harry, so lets finish this another time, ok." And with that she stood and headed for the girls' dormitory. Harry stared after her longingly and came to the conclusion that the only way to find out what happened during their tutoring sessions was to follow Ginny to the dungeons the following evening. With his plan firmly set in his mind, Harry headed to bedhoping that Ginny was right.
