Born In the Light of Darkness

Far away from mainstream civilization in the Undiscovered West of Equestria there exists a village. The village deeply worships the powers of the Sun and Moon, the power to give and nurture life in the light and the power to restore strength and sleep in the dark. As they worshiped with such vigor the strength of the Sun and Moon would be transferred into special newborns every five decades. After the first rulers of the village had grown it into a small kingdom, the fifth century approached and many of the expectant couples slept under the Totem of Light and Shadow, as the tradition dictated. The night after, the ponies who knew they would have the special children had an innate feeling. This time the same pony was chosen by both Light and Shadow, knowing that she would give birth to twins terrified her, across all the years since the special powers first appeared in the village the Chosen Ones have always been from different parents. Once the twins were born, there was a grand celebration and even though the culture had worshiped both the Sun and the Moon, this celebration had lifted the solar child into the limelight, and cast the lunar child into the shadow.

The child with the power of the Sun, Sunlight Justice was clad in yellow fur, the color of the suns outer corona. a mane the color of the grandest sunset which flowed like the waves of the ocean, a horn as sublime as they come. A beautiful specimen all in all, the eyes of anypony who gazed on him was in awe. The child with the power of the Moon, Darknight Moon. Clad in fur the color of the midnight sky, the midnight blue and purple, a mane of a new moon showing the absence of light, and a horn which was curved and thin like a finely crafted saber. Anypony who set their eyes on Darknight Mane was shown a pony who emitted darknees and the mysteriousness of the night in which many things are unseen and inexperienced

Years passed and as the Twins grew, so to did their rivalry. As Sunlight Justice performed feats of heroism and good fortune, giving him praise and adoration, Darknight Mane tried and failed to garner the good will of the people. His powers were of death and the removal and absence of light. Crops couldn't survive Darknight's best efforts to facilitate growth, it only ended in cold, dry crops. This led Darknight Mane to isolate himself from his people, to be himself in the mountainous regions. Years passed with Darknight Mane eventually findin solace in a secluded castle deep in the mountains.
