Longing
It should be a happy day, Dean starting kindergarten. Instead, John dreaded letting him out of sight. Though Dean seemed even less thrilled with Sam being out of his sight.
John ached for Mary to be there, smiling indulgently at them. She should be going to the school with Dean. It was wrong, like almost everything was wrong anymore. But looking at Dean and Sam, she was there, in a way. They both looked so much like her at times.
Glancing at the clock, he forced a smile, ruffling Dean's hair. He couldn't deny time forever, though he could try.
