"You don't have to hide them you know."
Remus glanced behind him. It was Lily, leaning against the willow tree with a kind smile on her face.
"What is?"
"Your scars."
The werewolf froze and just stared up at her. Lily smiled and sat herself next to him. It took him forever to find his voice again.
"You don't know what it's like, your skin is perfect." he said bitterly. Remus was surprised when she laughed.
"Come closer."
"James would have my head if I did."
Lily, instead of blowing up, merely rolled her eyes.
"Just lean forward, I need to show you something."
Remus bit back another smart reply. It wouldn't do to make the redhead mad. Despite how funny the retort would have been.
"Now, do you see something on my face?"
Remus let his eyes roam her face until it landed on the corner of her eye. It was barely visible. A white scar the size of his pinky.
"how.."
Lily laid herself on the ground, taking him with her to stare up at the clouds.
"I was playing in the park with my sister. We were playing tag. I tripped and landed on a sharp rock. My sister went ballistic."
Lily turned to face the werewolf .
"My scar is ugly."
"You can barely see it."
"But it's ugly nonetheless. Ask me if I'm ashamed of it."
"You can barely see it."
"Just ask me!" She said exasperated. Remus sighed and looked up at the Satyr-shaped-cloud.
"Are you ashamed of your scar,Lily?" he said quietly. Lily placed her head on his shoulder. Remus tensed. If James saw him now…
"I use to be" she muttered, "when I was a lot younger. My scar was very visible then and my classmates use to tease me. Calling me Scar and Pirate Lily"
Remus placed an arm around her and squeeze. It was really hard to believe friendly, sweet Lily could get bullied. but it happened.
"Severus was the only one that treated me as myself and not for my scar."
They stayed quiet. Both thinking about what happened a few days ago and how that statement was no longer true.
"But I soon learned that being scarred wasn't a big deal. There's lots of people who are marked, far worse than I and they don't have a problem with it. So why should we?"
"Lily.." he trailed off as she placed a hand on his cheek. She wouldn't understand. she couldn't. His scars were a big deal. The scars of a monster...
"Remus, your scars are just like another body part, a part of you,but they do not define who you are. Please don't hide them."
Lily shot up, hearing the chime of the giant clock. It was time for dinner.
"Come on Remus. Time to eat."
Remus stood up and followed a few feet behind her, lost in his thoughts.
"Lily."
She turned to face him.
"Thank you. I won't say that you changed me overnight, but it's nice to know I have someone who understands."
Lily smiled.
"I'm glad. You know what's another great thing about your scars?" she asked, her eyes twinkling mischievously. Remus raised an eyebrow.
"The scars make you look dead sexy. No wonder you have a fan club." she winked, before rushing off. "Race you to the dinner table!"
Remus stood there gobsmacked, before he finally ran after her, a silly grin plastered to his face.
He had a fan club?
