(the other pair)

Running. Something I rarely ever do, have never had a cause to do. Until now. In a field sweet with dandelions, almost a magical bright tint to the air, the only thing disturbing it the jagged sharp breaths being torn from mine and Caith's throats.

My name is Lavinia. Better known as Rin-people always ask where I get the nickname from. 'Lavinia' is kind of a mouthful (ironic!). It rarely leaves people's tongues without getting mangled (foreshadowing!). So, when I was just a little girl, too tomboyish and small to live up to such a great frilly name, I shortened it myself to 'Rin'. Rose is my middle name, so you'd do well to ask me why I didn't go by that, but again with the frilly overindulgence.

You know me as the redheaded Avox.

From the sky came an absolute silence, then a feeling like the clouds were heavy with rain and about to spill over their contents. A shadow in the middle of the pretty field, a gaping ragged hole in its sunny flower-spotted depths.

I wasn't always like this, you know. You know, quieter. I had a voice. I had friends, a family-people I cared about too. And she knew it-the girl. The one I never expected to see again, and then, by some mocking twist of fate, she and her innocent beau ended up right under my nose.

Dead silence. Everything has stopped breathing to listen. Then, a ticking and whirring, and all my instincts scream to drop down into the grass, to run, to do anything.

It seemed a funny parallel to draw-me, a girl from the Capitol, and my best friend, running away—trying to find protection! -in District 12. And, under the rocks, as if a mirror-image shimmering in a strange other world, that girl crouched with hers. Safe, ironically, in their own dangerous District. Safer hungry and poor than us in our gilded little lives.

If you wouldn't mind, then, because I have the time (or at least for now I do), I'll fill you in a little on my story. On ours. On the other pair, the ones that karma or maybe a cruel twist of fate took out before the Hunger Games even begun.
