I don't own anything related to Doctor Who. I just felt like Donna needed time to shine without Rose stealing the spotlight from her. No offense Rose fans.

At night Donna dreams of planets far away, of aliens and time. She dreams of battle and love, of libraries filled with death and deserts filled with life. And when she's jerked awake by the alarm clock or her mother yelling to come downstairs Donna feels both longing and sadness that she never thought could have existed.

She doesn't tell anyone about the feelings, because they seem to disappear once she starts to move and because Donna somehow feels like they're private. Like something she has to keep close or something wonderful will be taken away from her. Working as a temp doesn't keep her as busy as Donna would like and she finds herself reading books, Agatha Christie mostly, and wondering what it would be like if she traveled the world; but somehow the idea is stale and doesn't seen as wonderful as it once had. So Donna stays with the same old thing, drifting from job to job and looking for something that will fill the hole that opens up inside her at night.

And then the aliens came.

Donna heard the screaming of her coworkers first, followed by gunfire. She froze as they came in, large as life and demanding to have something the company had been working on. They could all die, they all would probably die, and yet all Donna could feel was a sick sort of joy about this happening.

And then she knew.

"Stop right there!" she yelled, facing the surprised aliens. She knew who they were, she knew where they'd come from and why they'd come here, she knew the secrets of the universe and what needed to be done.

For a few more glorious moments she was Doctor Donna.
