Life is what you make of it.
But what does one do when they aren't recognized as living?
Day after day, forced to live in a sterile tower unfit to be called home. Day after day, searching for the lost melody. Day after day, existing alone.
Existing. Simply existing. They were Nobodies – nothing more, everything less.
Though the others seemed to believe the 'lies' that spilt from their leader's mouth time and time again, he refused to succumb to such nonsense. Of course they had hearts! Of course they were beings! Of course they were alive! If not, what could describe what they felt when he played music, when Xemnas studied, or when Axel was around Roxas…? Were they simply made up emotions? Were they just memories of feeling?
Demyx refused to believe any of the lectures, or any of the beliefs shared among the others. It just wasn't right. Everything had to have feelings…right? If not, then what made his Dancers sway? What controlled the movements of his aquatic soldiers?
Then again, there was a point he couldn't argue with. Though he was able to create song, his tones were nothing more than notes. Something was always missing in his melodies. It was something he knew he should have – a feeling familiar, though he couldn't wrap his mind around the concept. What could he be lacking? Notes, rhythm, theory…
A heart, it was finally decided. He was missing a heart.
But, how could that be? Even after he reassured himself time and time again…he had to have heart. He had to!
An empty melody is no good. An emotionless piece never sings. That's the law of music.
An empty soul is no good. An emotionless spirit never sings. That's the law of heart.
