Neville Longbottom wasn't the most agile being in Hogwarts, actually, lets face it, Neville Longbottom wasn't the most agile being in the world, but in his case, it was his clumsiness that led him to the best moment in his life.
'We wish you a merry Christmas, we wish you a merry Christmas, we wish you a merry Christmas and a happy new year.' Hummed Luna, her long blonde hair bouncing with every skip in her step. It wasn't even Christmas she thought, but why not spread the happiness and cheer around anyway.
Rounding the corner, oblivious to everything and everyone around him, Neville moved swiftly, noticing a quick flash of blonde hair and those 'special' radish earrings. Before either Neville or Luna had the chance to dodge each other they collided with such a force that knocked both of them to the ground, leaving both of them winded and panting for breath.
'Luna, oh my god, Luna I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to, I wasn't concentrating and I just, I -'
'Neville! Wrackspurts! Neville stop and shh for a moment!'
Exclaimed Luna, raising her hands to hush Neville.
'What? Luna, I don't under-' his face contorted with an unusual and uncertain expression.
'Neville Longbottom, you listen to me right now, and hush.'
Luna crawled forward and leaned in slowly with her ear turned in towards Neville. She finally stopped just short of Neville's nose, her ear and his nose barely an inch apart when Luna gave a small shriek at the sound of constant humming erupting from Neville's head.
Diving into her backpack, she balanced herself on her knees pulling out a pair of rather unusual pink and blue glasses.
'What are those?' Questioned Neville
'Luna, what are those?'
'Patience Neville, be patient, but most importantly be still! You need to be completely still.'
Placing the glasses upon her nose she used her left hand to turn Neville's head to the side and stared intently inside Neville's ear.
'Merlins Beard Neville, you've got a nice collection of wrackspurts buried deep inside your ear.'
'Wrackspurts?' Neville glanced at Luna, for some reason unknown to him, the idea of having an unknown creature buried in his head didn't bother him. Maybe it was that there was a chance that Luna was nuts and no such creature exists, or maybe it was the fact that he had been desperate to get this close to her for months now and now that the moment had come, he hadn't the strength to pull himself away.
He felt overpowered with the need to smell her hair, which gave off an aroma of cinnamon and honey, or the need to touch her and feel the soft skin of her face on his fingertips.
Whatever the feeling, he had been in love with her from the moment he first laid eyes on her handing out the quibbler on the train.
'They're invisible creatures. They hide inside your ears and make your brain go fuzzy' answered Luna, retracting slightly so she was sitting upright.
Neville stayed quiet, fuzzy? He thought. His brain was definitely fuzzy, but he doubted it was because of the wrackspurts. Before he could comprehend what his body was doing his shifted himself forward, reaching out a hand to touch Luna's cheek, his fingertips tickled her skin and instantly a small blush arose on her face as she leant into his touch.
'I think those wrackspurts have found their way into my ears now Neville.' A soft sight escaped Luna's mouth and she gazed as Neville, her eyes fixed on his.
'Stupid wrackspurts.' Muttered Neville, laughing silently.
'Not so stupid after all.' Whispered Luna, resting her own hand upon his, which was still on her cheek, slowly leaning forward and pressing her lips gently against his.
