-1He finds it somewhat amusing how the seasons fade into each other without anyone really taking notice. Sure, the temperatures go up or down, and the usual complaints come along, but no one ever really notices.
Of course, the one thing that changes along with the seasons is the crime rate: it goes down somewhat on one side of the scale, and up on the other. It's something that he has come to expect with every year that passes by.
And it's why he finds himself standing outside, inside the perimeter of yet another round of crime scene tape. The temperature in the city has skyrocketed again; last anyone in the unit looked, it was around 95 degrees with the potential to keep rising. And as usual, there is a crowd on the other side of the tape, all of them watching what's going on.
They're probably only watching because they have nothing better to do, and he knows it. School won't be in session again until September; a few kids are present and he's not at all surprised. Sad as it seems, most of these children have probably been witnesses to crime scenes before. This is probably nothing new to them. And when the seasons change again, they'll have something to tell their new classes.
It seems like an eternity has passed by the time he and his partner cross the tape again to begin asking questions to find out whether or not anyone present knows anything. Most of them will deny they know anything. Some will be caught in a lie and taken to the precinct to face an interrogation. Others will truly know nothing.
The seasons are changing again. Spring is fading into summer, and as the temperature rises in New York City, the crime rate rises with it.
A/N: Yay! Another prompt thing of mine is done! But alas, SVU is still not mine...
