AN~ No, I don't own it. Duh.

"Roy Montgomery taught me what it meant to be a cop." Memories flew through Detective Beckett's mind as she read her prepared speech, thinking of all of the helpful tips and tricks her superior had shown her through the years.

"He taught me that we are bound by our choices, but we are more that our mistakes." She remembers the night she went to the hanger, feeling first confused, then hurt, angry, and finally sadness as the shots rang through the night.

"Captain Montgomery once said to me that for us there is no victory, there are only battles." Scenes from his office in the precinct several days before, wondering if it would ever end.

"And in the end, the best you can hope for is to find a place to make your stand." Rick carries her out of the hangar, kicking and crying. She wouldn't scream. That would be the death of all of them.

"And if you're very lucky, you find someone to stand with you." Kate lets her gaze rest on Castle standing next to her for a moment. He'd held her, saved her, listened to the memories of a fallen friend and comrade.

"Our captain would want us to carry on the fight." The four partners, sitting around her coffee table, agreeing never to let their fallen commanders' reputation be tarnished. No one would ever speak a word of his past transgressions.

Kate sees a sparkle in the distance, but thinks nothing of it. Probably a memento left on a gravestone by a family member. She sees Rick with a curious look on his face, but contributes it to remembering their friend.

"And even if there is one …" A light pop sounds, distantly, and suddenly there's a burning pain right by her belly button. She automatically coils back, falling onto the ground behind the podium. *You have GOT to be kidding me,* was her first though, as she heard the screaming around her. The close second was for her dad, then for Castle. Speaking of…

"Kate!" she hears her partner.

From somewhere among the screaming crowd comes, "Beckett no!"

Castle is leaning above her, whispering, begging. "Shh, Kate. Please stay with me Kate. Don't leave me. Please? Say with me, okay?" She wants to tell him she won't go anywhere. Neither will he. Castle had promised her that he was staying in the city except for a long weekend in the Hamptons with his daughter. Darkness was creeping into the corners of her vision. A tear slips from her eye.

"Kate, I love you." Oh sure, now he tells her, when she can't reply. Damn him.

"I love you, Kate." Yeah, he said that already. And she still couldn't say a freaking thing back.

*Castle…* The blackness closed in, and she falls back.

AN (2) ~ So, I watched the oh so wonderful season finale yesterday, and then when reading through new stories about it, I realized most of it was Castle's point of view. So I sat down and started writing, and came up with this. All of the dialogue I got by typing out what they were saying as I listened to the end on Hulu, so forgive me if some of it was wrong. Either way, please tell me what you think. Like it? Hate it? Don't really care one way or another?
