A/N: Well, hope you enjoy this. It's just a short drabble, really not much plot in it.
Summary: L muses to himself: why does Light like him? Power or love?
Warnings: Spoiler to L's real name, implied L/Light, lot's of fluff & nonsense
Rating: T (should really be K+ but it does have suggestive themes xD)
Disclaimer: Well, for one, if I owned Death Note there'd be MUCH more L/Light/L & Misa bashing xD. So basically, I don't own it ¬¬.
Motivated
'All people are motivated by one thing, and one thing only, Lawliet: power. You might be fooled at first into thinking that it's duty, love or altruism, but trust me, when the shit hits the door, as sure as it'll stink up the entire building, it always comes down to power. Who has it and who doesn't.'
L remembered those words only too well, even though he couldn't remember who'd said it or why, as it'd stuck to his mind as gum sticks to hair. And because he'd always believed in those wise words he'd caught the number of criminals that he did.
He was sitting on a sofa with his knees drawn to his chest, thumb in mouth, in front of a blazing fire. He'd been doing this for the past three day's non-stop. To his right there was a pile of cakes, some half-eaten, and beside him was Light; his first and only friend. His equal, his rival and, last but not least, his lover.
The dark-haired detective shifted from his position, slightly uncomfortable, due to Light's weight. What had driven the auburn-haired young man to sleep with him? Mused the detective. He could be considered attractive in his own way and he did tend to remain in people's minds: not because he was handsome but because of his weird habits. 'Why does Light-kun like me?' he considered for a brief moment.
Light stirred and opened an eye groggily, only to find L staring at him. Slowly he got up and stretched, stifling a yawn.
"You really should try and get some sleep, Lawliet." Said the younger of the two as he tucked the blanket around his sick lover.
"I may be ill, Yagami-kun, but I'm certainly not invalid," pointed out said man.
"I was just trying to be nice," he replied while placing a kiss on the older detective's lips and getting up.
"Well, that's very thoughtful on your part, Light-kun." He paused, "Why does Light-kun like me?" he said, reverting back to his name "is it because he will gain power over me? Or is it because he truly loves me?"
Light stopped and turned, slowly, towards his lover. "Now, why is it that you're asking this? Of course I love you. Why else would I be with someone?" An image of Misa popped into his mind. He shuddered and pushed the thought as far away from his mind as possible.
He laughed at L's puzzled face, picked him up from where he was sitting and took him towards their bed. "I don't need a reason for loving you, do I?" he asked in mock-exasperation. He lay L down on the bed, forcing him to get under the covers. "Now, go to sleep and I'll tell Watari to buy more of your medicine," L looked at him with a failed attempt of puppy-eyes, "and an extra supply of cakes."
L was grateful to Light for pampering him like this. Maybe not all people were power-driven. Maybe Light was different from the rest of the population. No, he was different. After all, he was his equal and lover, right?"
"Arigatô, Light," he said as he drifted off to a dreamless sleep.
