*I absolutely love West Wing, Marlee Matlin and Bradley Whitford. Anything in a single quotation marks is translated by Kenny. Anything in double quotation marks is verbally said and/or signed by Joey herself.

There is no excuse for this.

Joey and Kenny stood in front of the doorway as Josh sat on the edge of his desk, arms crossed. They were talking when Josh furrowed his brow and interrupted the flow of conversation.

"What was that?"

'What was what?' Kenny translated.

"That sign right there," he said again, pointing at Joey's hands. "You use it all the time when we're talking. What's it mean?"

"It's your namesign," she told him.

Kenny said, 'finger-spelling J O S H out takes too much time, and we talk so often I decided to give you a namesign.'

"I have a namesign?" Josh said, surprised. He smirked, jerking his head back as though he'd been physically slapped, his shoulders hunching. "Don't you think you should've told me my own namensign?"

'Sorry,' Joey said. 'I forgot.'

"Teach it to me."

Josh concentrated, working hard until he'd learned it.

'How are you coming along with your signing?' Kenny asked. Joey raised an eyebrow in anticipation. 'Show me.'

"Don't laugh," Josh said sternly, Kenny signing as he spoke. "Promise. Otherwise I'm not doing it."

Joey glanced at Kenny for a better translation and smiled sweetly. She shook her head, signing as Kenny assured him: 'I won't laugh.'

"Good," Josh said, though he still looked nervous. He shook his hands out and rotated his shoulders, trying to remember the signs exactly.

'HELLO MY NAME …' pause, 'JOSH,' he signed slowly and carefully, using his new namesign. Kenny smiled encouragingly. Joey watched him intently. 'NICE MEET YOU.'

"More," she said, making the 'YES' sign; rocking her fist in the air in front of her.

'YOU BEAUTIFUL,' he signed, pointing to Joey, 'TOMORROW GO WANT DATE ME?'

At that, Joey burst out laughing, signing 'Good.'

"Why is she laughing?" Josh asked Kenny nervously, then directed the question to her. "Why are you laughing? What did I say?"

'You did good,' Kenny translated as she signed. 'But you signed 'soft' instead of 'want',' and Joey showed him the difference, then showed him an easier way to sign it.

"Oh," Josh snarked playfully. "Well I'm sorry. I'm still learning, after all."

"It was cute," Joey said with a smile.

"Thanks," he said softly, his ears burning in embarrassment. "So..."

'So?' Kenny repeated. Joey's eyebrows came down in confusion, her hands hanging in the air.

"Will you go out with me tomorrow night?" he asked, looking away anxiously. When he finally looked up again, she was grinning widely.

"I would like that very much," she answered.
