1 Epilogue: The Return of Kehaar

Hazel and all of the other rabbits were living peacefully in the warren, and the population was growing rapidly. One bright sunny morning in mid- summer, about a year from when the does had started living at the warren, Fiver was at silflay with Hazel, Pipkin, Silver and a few of the does. Suddenly Fiver's eye's widened and he stood stock-still with his ears raised in alert.

"What is it, Fiver, what's wrong?" Hazel asked.

"Something's coming, Hazel. Something's coming!" Fiver said in a shrill voice.

Trusting Fiver like all the other times, he looked all around, the other rabbits following him. "Something like what Fiver? Is it bad?"

Fiver jumped ahead a few feet and sniffed the air, still listening. "No..it's.."

"Ya, ya, Hi 'azel!" called a voice from up above.

"Kehaar!!! And…Kehaar's Family……………" Hazel trailed off.

"I brought back my own mudder, from Pig Vater! There are lots of mudders at Pig Vater! And I brought back liddle baby Kehaar's, too! Now, where's PigVig?"

Hazel was still confused. "But Kehaar, why did you come back? I thought you were going to stay at Big Water!"

Kehaar laughed, and landed on the ground by the rabbits, his family doing so also. "Ya, ya, oh 'azel, how could I ever leave all ya guy's behind? I had to come back! I could start my own family here! Who needs Pig Vater?"

Kehaar wandered off with his mate, in search of Bigwig, and his children wandered in another direction, leaving Hazel and the other rabbits alone again.

"Something's coming, huh Fiver? Maybe you're getting a little rusty…." Hazel joked.

"Hey, I never said it was something bad!" Fiver shouted in defense. They rest of the rabbits laughed, and then went down into the burrow. Hazel followed, and decided to try and find a burrow big enough for Kehaar and his whole clan. One the way, they saw all the other rabbits reuniting with him, all just as surprised to see him back.

Things hadn't really changed around the warren, except for all the does, and the new litters. But all the original rabbits were still there, and had settled down in families. They all gathered in a big burrow and Dandelion told a story.

Awhile later Kehaar burst out, "Ya, where are my kids?!"

Hazel and the gang rushed up in search of the little birds, and sniffed around in every direction.

"Where are you, liddle ones?" Kehaar shouted out worriedly. Then they heard some squawking coming from behind a near hill, and rushed over there. Sure enough, they found six little birds pecking ravenously at a very rough- looking rabbit. "Ow, ooh, I give up!" the rabbit shrieked.

Hazel and Fiver looked closer at the rabbit, and gasped. "General Woundwort!" they cried in unison.

General Woundwort slowly raised his head and looked at them sheepishly. "Hello…Hazel…" he mumbled.

"Hi, Woundwort, you double crosser." Hazel spat.

Woundwort squinted his eyes and resorted to begging. "No hard feelings, Hazel-rah, really. I almost died."

"Too bad you didn't." Fiver interjected.

"Please, Hazel-rah, I wont cause any trouble, just let me stay with you, at your warren. Please?"

Hazel looked him up and down, and thought a moment. "Wellllllllllll…I don't know, you wouldn't help US out…"

Woundwort cringed. "Please…"

Hazel grinned, and motioned toward Kehaar's children. "Do your thing, little birds, do your thing. Dispose of him."

And they all lived happily ever after.
