Summary- Wakka and Lulu are often talking on the airship, and strangely Wakka becomes available for recruitment in blitzball.
Her way with words
Wakka stared aimlessly out the large glass window of the airship.
"I wonder what the Aurochs are doin." He wondered aloud with a sigh. It was morning; the only person he really expected to be up and about was Rikku's bizarre older Brother who usually maintained upkeep while everyone slept. He wasn't expecting anyone else. It was times like this that he truly missed Blitxball and all his friends in Besaid. They were currently flying over some body of water. The ocean was so bright and sparkling that Wakka thought it should be bound to some sort of ring. He mused helplessly over it's beauty, and mystery. His thoughts broke barriers and soon he found himself thinking of Lulu: whose beauty and mysterious way made him muse helplessly just the same.
"Your foolishness never ceases to amaze me." Came a low composed voice from behind. Wakka jumped and turned to greet his intruder.
"Good morning Lu." Without a word the mage came and stood next to him, she crossed her arms assuming the stance of "Lulu in thought" as they both gazed intently at the morning sky and the water below. Wakka's attention shifted when he heard a sigh escape her freshly painted lips. He quickly went into panic mood. The sigh could mean one of two things. One, she was upset with him; this seemed to be her favorite way of letting him know. Or two, she was concerned, Wakka was betting on the former because of her initial greeting. He was about to ask her what was wrong when she spoke.
"Why do you do this to yourself?" She kept her eyes on the water below them. Wakka kept his eyes on her.
"What'd ya mean Lu?" He leaned a little closer afraid that he would not hear her response because of the minimal distance between them. They always seemed to stand close whenever they exchanged words. Maybe it's because each valued the others opinion so greatly. She sighed again.
"It's obvious you love the game, so why torture yourself isn't this all enough torture in Guarding Yuna?" Wakka was a little take a back. Up until this point Lulu never expressed any general interest in him and his decision to retire. He swallowed and prepared the excuse he gave everyone when she spoke again. "Yuna… she hurts, she does not smile at the things she once smiled at." She paused for a moment, the kind of pause that makes Wakka really take it what she said before. "I feel that even if we find a way to defeat Sin, she has lost a part of her that will never return." Lulu shook her head slightly as if fighting with the proper words in her head. "I saw it coming… and I saw it pass." She looked down momentarily then back up at the sky. Wakka knew Lulu was terribly hard on herself, especially when it came to Yuna. He wanted to hold her, somehow find the words to make it better, "I don't want to lose a part of you to Sin." She then surprised him by looking at him for the first time throughout their conversation. "Not if I see it coming."
