Shadowland

Disclaim: I Do NOT Own The Lion King, Nala, or the song 'Shadowland'

Nala

Fatshe leso lea halalela

Those words were sacred to the lionesses of the Pride Lands, especially to Nala.

Those words faded away as soon as the herds had moved on and the Pridelands became a baring waste land.

The lionesses were in a secret place behind Pride Rock. Their secret place was the only safe place.

Sarabi looked at the other lionesses. She had never been the same since her husband died and her son pronounced dead. She was getting old and feeble. She could not fight Scar or the hyenas.

"There is only one thing we can do."

Nala looked at her queen.

"One of us must leave to find help. We really have no other choice."

The lionesses mouths dropped in horror. None of them dare anger or go against Scar.

Nala took a deep breath and stepped forward.

"I will go."

The lionesses looked at Nala. Ami, Nala's mother, looked at her daughter in shock and shook her head.

"Nala, I forbid this!"

Nala looked to her mother. She saw the tears welling up in her eyes. She smiled and gently rubbed her head against her mother's head. Ami felt like her heart was breaking in half. She never wanted to lose her daughter.

Ami looked at her daughter and the tears fell freely down her face. She shook her head.

"I will not lose you."

"Mother, I have to do this. For our Pride, for our home and for our freedom."

Ami looked at her daughter.

"I love you."

"I love you more."

Sarabi let out a deep sigh.

"It is decided."

Ami and Nala looked at Sarabi. She walked over to the mother and daughter. She gently rubbed her head against the young female's head. Nala looked into Sarabi's eyes.

"May Mufasa guide your journey, child."

Nala gave a small nod of her head.

The lioness heard the sound of soft rattling. They looked and saw Rafiki. He walked past the lioness and they bowed to him. Rafiki walked up to the young lioness. He broke a fruit and put a small, red streak across Nala's forehead and across both her cheeks. He said a soft blessing for her safe travel and that may Mufasa guide her.

Rafiki's eyes locked with Nala's.

"You must go now."

Nala bite back the tears and gave a simple nod. She looked at her mother. Tears fell down her mother's face. Nala smiled at her and ran down the secret entrance stoneway.

*
Nala was about out of Prideland boundaries when she heard roars. She stopped and looked over her shoulder. The lionesses, her mother, and Queen Sarabi were sending a prayer with her. She roared back to them.
