AN: So I'm thinking of making this into a Drabble series so let me know if you have any suggestions.

Disclaimer: I own nothing.

She stood behind him. The boy who had stood at the centre of her universe for seven years. Seven long unbelievable years leading to this, the battle fought, the villain defeated. This is where their happy ending was supposed to start.

It was just the two of them outside, Ron had left to be with his family. They needed him now after...after Fred. For a second her lungs constricted and she couldn't breathe, she was drowning in a sea of grief, so she made way towards the only thing that still made sense in her broken world.

Harry. Loyal, brave Harry, her best friend. She walked until she was standing at his side and suddenly the world made more sense like pieces falling into place. At his side was where she belonged. She wasn't sure which one of them moved but suddenly they were leant against each other, shoulders meeting and she could feel the warmth of his body seep into her.

'Did you know?' She blurts suddenly, the question escaping her with an urgency that surprised her. 'Did you know you would survive?'

She felt him tense, just for a fraction of a second before he answered, and her breath caught because really that was answer enough.

'No.'

And he went anyway. Because he was Harry and he was loyal and brave and the very best person she knew. Harry who didn't understand why anyone would betray their friends, Harry who couldn't hate enough for a crucio. Of course he would go of it meant saving the people he loved. Hermione felt her heart swell with emotion for this boy who had taught her things more precious and wonderful than any teacher ever had.

This was supposed to be the start of their happy ending, but the faces of the dead where seared into her brain and her body ached, her heart ached. Happiness seemed so alien, so unattainable right now, like a child's innocent dream. But as she slipped her hand into his, her best friend who was still alive against all odds, she felt hopeful. Because there was no adventure she had not followed him through and she would not start now.
