Pick a Rose From the Garden

For their first date he took her to a Muggle aquarium. It was filled with many species of fish, shark, and other sea creatures which delighted them both. They spent the day walking through the tunnels, looking above them, and at one stage they got to pat a shark. At the end of that day he felt brave enough to hold her hand.

On their second date they visited a national park in Britain. He got them in without anyone noticing, and the whole evening was spent looking at creatures great and small, and even some others that were invisible to Muggles. That night, he kissed her, and she kissed him back.

They were married only a year later, and a year after that they had two very happy and healthy twin boys to keep them busy.

They'd spent those few years travelling the world; they saw the Amazon, the Andes Mountains, forests in Africa. They saw everything from giraffes to possible sightings of the Crumple-Horned Snorkack.

And then, just when their boys hit two years old – Lorcan had just smashed his fist into the birthday cake – an owl arrived.

Mrs Luna Scamander, it read.

We regret to inform you that your father Xenophilus Lovegood was caught in a freak snowstorm by Mt Everest in Nepal. His body was recovered just hours ago. Your presence at St. Mungo's would be much appreciated.

That was the first and only time Rolf would see Luna cry. Of course, she would cry more than that, but it was the only time he'd ever seen her. She fell into his arms, sobbing, saying it was supposed to be his last trip before retirement. She cried for hours, their sons' second birthday all but forgotten.

"Don't worry," he soothed after some time, rubbing a hand up and down her back in comfort. "He was doing what he loved."

She smiled at that, looking up at him with a tear-stained face. "I know," she said softly. "I just wish I'd had the chance to say goodbye."

Rolf placed a kiss to her cheek, and then to her lips. "You'll still get that chance," he promised her. "You always will."

She curled into him again, head against his chest, arms around his waist. Their boys joined them after that, Lysander climbing into her lap and handing his mother a freshly picked rose from the garden.

"Oh, thank you, darling," Luna said, accepting the gift. "It's beautiful."

This delighted their son, and beaming, he gave her a big, wet kiss on her cheek, throwing little arms around her neck.

"See, dear," Rolf said with a small smile. "That is exactly something your father would do to cheer you up."

Luna returned his smile. "Yes," she agreed. "He really would."

I actually enjoyed writing RolfLuna. They don't get a lot of love, sadly :( Please leave your thoughts here! Would be much appreciated!
