Kagome was sorely missing her mother. Looking at her young son she was finding he hardly listened to anything she had to advise him on anymore. At first she thought he was being stubborn. Reaching his early teens he was at the age; however she also found he wasn't listening to his father's advice, either. When Miroku and Sango came to visit, Hajime hung on their every word, whether they spoke about fighting, training or chores. Then it clicked for her. He wasn't listening not because he was being stubborn but because his parents were the ones giving him advice and guidance.
Feeling sad at her son's sudden rejection she thought of her mother. It made her sad to think she had treated her mother this way, and sadder to think of how it had made her mother feel. Unfortunately she had no way to apologize. At least not one that was immediate. Turning to go back into her hut she went to her chest, taking out paper and her writing utensils. Like so many times before she set about to write her mother a letter. She had no way of knowing if these letters she wrote her would survive the 500 year separation or how she would get them, but it settled her soul somewhat to think one day her mother would know how sorry she was.
