So this popped into my head while watching Bones actually...it's kinda rough, the work of maybe two hours. Hope you like!

Still not mine and doubtful it ever will be.

She looked at the clock. Thirty more minutes. Settling down more comfortably on the couch she looked out the window, wrapped long, thin fingers around a mug of red tea and allowed her thoughts free reign.

For as long as she knew she had been waiting for someone. In fact her first memory was one of waiting. She had been three and in the orphanage. One of the sisters had brought her to the front offices. She could not remember for sure but other memories told her that there were more than likely other children as well. All she could recall with certainty was the prevailing silence in the room and the bear she had in her hands. Being so young she had not been entirely cognizant of the gravity of the situation but she could recall a feeling of gravitas. The sister had picked her up and carried her into the main office. The memory of the woman's smell had stayed with her: clean, too clean. And her smile. She did not know then, but now, looking back she could see that it had been fake. Too much teeth. The sister had been crying as they walked out.

There had been other times of waiting for someone and the older she had gotten the more she had understood what was going on each time she had gone in there. Sometimes the meetings had resulted in leaving the orphanage for a period of time, but more often than not she had left never to see the couple in the office again.

Eventually she had aged out and went on to college. With college came her first truly serious relationship. His name had been Ryan and they had dated rather seriously for about two years. She had been starting to see herself with him on a permanent basis. One night during her last semester, she had decided to surprise him and went to his place. Lounging on his bed she had, probably been waiting for about an hour when she heard the door open causing her anticipation to mount.

Until the bedroom door opened.

It had taken a very long time to get over Ryan. With him she had started to feel like she belonged, like someone wanted her. His betrayal had crushed her, causing her to really wonder if there was someone. No family had wanted her and apparently the man she thought she loved had not truly wanted her either.

Then there had been Frankie. He had wanted her too much causing more uncertainty. Would she ever attract someone normal? Someone who would allow her the freedom to make her own choices?

Even her friends had not been able to make her truly feel like she was someone. She had always been on the fringes of crowds; the more people the fewer words she said. They had not intentionally ignored her but nor did they truly make her feel wanted and accepted. The one person she had ever trusted had disappeared and it was not until more than ten years later that she learned the true, tragic story. And had finally been able to move on, had for the first time in years felt that someone had loved her as a child. But of course Mindy/Victoria had been unable to stay and they had been unable to re-forge their childhood bond. But that situation, while it had been difficult made her feel like a person again. Like maybe there could be someone out there. Friend, lover, someone.

Hearing the key in the lock she looked up a smile lighting her face. The door opened and moments later she found herself in the arms of someone. Of her best friend, of the man who allowed her to be herself, of the man who protected her of the man who would never hurt her. The man who wanted her. The man who loved her. His life had not been easy either. He had had someone and lost her.

Now they had each other. Someone to love, someone to be someone for. She was home.
