I have no idea what this is.

Portrait of a Lady

"You're pathetic you know that?" Chirped the snarky voice from the potato battery. "I mean really, sleep? Like you haven't had enough of that already."

The human set the gun-looking device on the desk next to the giant window of the observation deck. How long had they been down here? Days? Months? Time was merely a blur now. All she knew was that she was tired and this place seemed as good as any to rest before continuing up the abandoned and dilapidated test chambers. The human yawned and sat in the old desk chair, looking out the window onto the chamber she had just completed.

"I'm serious. I don't want to be here." Snapped the potato that still clung onto one of the protruding arms of the gun device. The human rolled her eyes and didn't acknowledge the vegetable. She leaned back in the chair and spun a bit, facing the far wall. There was a large painting she hadn't noticed when she walked in. Furrowing her brow, the human stood up and walked towards the portrait.

She had never seen anything like it. In the painting was a man sitting there, staring at her intently. He was old; she guessed that by his graying hair. His face held a stern and stagnant look on it. It made her uneasy to look at the man. Over his shoulder was a woman. In fact, the most beautiful woman she had ever seen. Granted, she's never seen another woman in the flesh before.

She brought a shaky hand up to the painting and touched the canvas she was painted on. The woman in the painting's complexion was pale, almost as white as the dress she wore, almost as pristine as her chassis. The human's eyes drifted up to the red ascot the woman in the painting wore. It stood out like the eye of an attacking turret. Further up the human looked at the woman, until the painting's soft brown eyes matched her own.

"Are you done?" Chirped the potato, which had been silent until now. The human turned around and glared. "The people in the painting. They look familiar is all." The potato stated flatly, as if she was trying to hide something. The human shrugged and walked back over to where the potato was impaled on the gun and set both on the floor and she curled up next to it.

"No. Don't go to sleep. Don't leave me with her." The potato protested. The human just lazily opened an eye and rolled over to face away from her.

With the optic attached to the potato, GLaDOS focused on the portrait on the wall. "Goodnight, Caroline." She snarled at the woman before clicking off to conserve energy, as an emotional outburst requires more than 1.6 volts of electricity.
