A/N: I know this is incredibly short, but I hope you enjoy it anyway. :)
"I don't understand, Jules!" Shawn whined. "Why can't we just watch some Phineas and Ferb or something?"
Juliet smiled to herself. She considered explaining, but then glanced at the clock and saw that it was 8:28, so instead she just walked over to her boyfriend and grabbed his hand, a blanket in her other arm, and pulled him gently out the door.
Juliet flicked off the one remaining light on her way out of the house, leaving the moon as the only source of illumination.
"Juliet..." More complaining from Shawn. Juliet, far from being annoyed, actually laughed out loud, and just chose to explain with three words.
"Earth hour, Shawn."
And so that shut Shawn up, and Juliet was left to drape the blanket on the damp grass. She flopped down, and glancing up, saw that Shawn was still standing. Juliet patted the blanket next to her and smiled.
And so it was that Shawn and Juliet spent an hour on a Saturday night in Juliet's backyard, not talking, but lying down and staring up at the stars.
"That's what I believe. I believe the universe wants to be noticed. I think the universe is improbably biased toward consciousness, that it rewards intelligence in part because the universe enjoys its elegance being observed. And who am I, living in the middle of history, to tell the universe that it- or my observation of it- is temporary?"
