Cut text: Summer is miles and miles away…

Title: In My Time of Need

Pairing: Peter/Caspian

Rating: Could get by with a PG-ish rating, as there's nothing explicit…it's just dark.

Disclaimer: Not mine. Title belongs to Opeth.

The screeching of metal against metal as the train careened off the track overwhelmed Peter as he was pitched forward in his seat, head slamming against the windowpane hard enough to crack the glass. He heard Lucy shriek in terror, and thought it was quite possibly the worst sound he'd ever heard. He reached for his baby sister, wanting to assure her that it'd all be okay, but he knew it wouldn't.

The ruined walls spun around him, blood-spattered, the obscene red contrasting starkly with the grey skies outside the broken windows. Peter couldn't feel anything, couldn't see anything; his vision went red as his body suddenly became aware of the broken capillary in his left eye. In the moment before he passed out, Peter thought not of the girl he had back home but of Caspian, his long, dark hair catching the sunlight as he ran through the streets of the little village near the castle, laughing. The untainted joy in the Prince's voice hurt, and Peter wished with everything he had that he'd followed Caspian that day. Instead, he'd gone off to mope on his own, knowing that he had less than a day left in Narnia before he had to leave, never to return.

Now, far too late, Peter realised that he should've taken that chance, should've run until his lungs burst and his heart pounded so fiercely that it threatened to shatter his ribs. As darkness closed in, he thought of what might have been—of shy glances and heated kisses, hands clasped boldly and dark eyes boring into lighter ones. His last thought was a softly accented whisper: Peter…

And he let go.

A/N: Since my inspiration's been a little…nonexistent today, I decided to do the whole "Let's load up EVERY song in the media library and randomize the playlist!" There are, like, 514 songs, and I imagine I could probably churn out a little bit of drabble based on each if I wanted to and tried hard enough, but…

Opeth pwns. That is all. D And I would highly recommend downloading "In My Time of Need"…it's dark, but awesome.
