Prologue…
Felicia Gilbert
Boston, MA
"I'm not in the mood today, mom."
Felicia Gilbert said as she walked through the front door with her mother.
"You have to have some kind of plan for your future, sweetheart."
Her mother said as she sat the shopping bags on the floor.
"Mom, it's okay for you to plan out Kayla's future, but I'm eighteen, I can make my own decisions. And I choose to go to a four year college…out of state."
Felicia grabbed her shopping bags and stomped up the stairs, and slammed her door shut.
"Don't you slam doors in my house!"
Her mother yelled.
Felicia flung her bags on her sofa, and jumped onto her bed.
Why can't mom understand that I don't want to go to a community college? I have a full scholarship to The University of Miami. So whether she likes it or not, I'm going to that college.
Just then, the doorbell rang, and Felicia looked out her window to see who it was.
Oh great, future husband is here again…I don't even love him, but mom says it will further my career…whatever.
"Felicia, sweetheart! Jason's here to see you!"
"I'll be down in minute!"
Once Felicia had gotten her self together, she headed downstairs where she was greeted with a dandelion.
"Hey Jason."
"Hey babe, how was school?"
"Normal, just getting ready for prom and graduation."
"Well, I'll take you to get your dress tomorrow, because you know we have to match."
"Jason please. I already bought my dress, and I highly doubt that it's going to match anything you have. So, just wear a nice tux."
"Fine, are you okay? You seem a little irritated that usual."
Same Time…
Manhattan, NY
"Come on Orton. You know you want to try it."
One of the drug dealers asked him while he was walking home from baseball practice.
"I said NO! Now, you keep bothering me and I'll be forced to do something I really don't want to do."
Randy turned to face the kid, who was now almost about to piss his pants.
"Okay man, chill out. There's no need to get hostile."
"Just get out of here….NOW!"
The kid turned around and ran in the opposite direction. Randy was used to that, but he didn't care. Once he got home, he dropped his bag on the floor, and looked in the refrigerator. He grabbed an Aquafina Carbonated water and sat down on the couch.
"Hey sweetheart! How was baseball practice?"
"It was cool, mom. We got a new coach today, but I think that he's seriously too strict on us."
His mother walked into the room, and sat down at the kitchen table, and continued to cut out her coupons.
"Mom, why do you steady cut out coupons when we have enough money to last us a lifetime?"
"Because it's either ten percent or twenty percent off of the product. Why pay the full price when you could pay half?"
"You got a point there. So what time do you have to work from tonight?"
"I have to graveyard shift again. I swear, Mr. McMahon is making me sick to my stomach. I mean I know that he has patients and all, but half of the people that work at that hospital get more time off than I do."
"Don't worry, mom. I'm here to help out. Once I graduate and become a successful banker, then we'll be able to move out of New York and onto bigger and better places."
"Thank you baby."
"Hey, I'd do anything for my mother. Just be glad I'm not one of those lazy teenagers who just sit around and watch music videos all day."
"I am grateful to God for a blessing like you, Randy. I mean since your father walked out on us, I just feel like I'm not as strong as I used to be."
"That's why you have me to fall back on, mom. You know I love you, and I would do anything to make you happy."
Randy's mom kissed him on the cheek. He walked back over to the couch, and turned on the television.
"Mom and I are seriously going to move out of New York once I become a banker." Randy thought to himself
