1. Holding Hands- Near ( Nate Rivers) x Luke (Luke Triton)- Our Little Secret (Death Note/Professor Layton)
L and the Professor were sat in the other room, discussing how best to bring down the Kiras. Meanwhile, the Professor's apprentice was spinning around in a leather cushioned computer chair while L's successor watched from a distance.
"D'ya really think we'll catch Kira?" Luke asked from the chair, spinning childishly with a huge grin on his face. Near shook his head at the boy who was the same age and acted it, unlike himself.
"Of course I do. I'm 89% positive. L has never lost a game. Therefore, it is most likely that we will succeed." He started stacking dice, black on top of white on top of black. Luke watched the albino in strict interest.
"An' the Professah has neva failed to solve a puzzle, so it looks good, right?" Near nodded. He was interested in Luke. The child absolutely loved Japan, yet chose to stay in the blue and beige uniform of an English schoolboy. He was clever, but extremely naive and immature. He was surprised at how he had managed to stay that way, working in the detective business already for four years. He was, in reality, more experienced than Near, not that either of them would admit it. Both were ten years of age, both following in the footsteps of their countries greatest detectives. They were really quite similar.
Luke took another spin in the chair.
"Will you please cease your childish ways. There is a serious meeting next door." Near didn't quite get what was so fascinating about the chair. Luke turned it away from him and popped his head over the top so that you could just see his eyes and his blue cap.
"Why should I? If I were in the meetin', I would be'ave. But I'm not, an' neither are you." Near had been quite annoyed when L had told him to stay outside, but he knew it was only to keep an eye on Luke. If the brunette with the big, innocent eyes hadn't been there, he would have been treated like an equal in the meeting hall.
Speaking of the big, innocent eyes, they had somehow crossed the room and were staring at the tower of dice from the rim of the table. Luke suddenly looked up at Near and grinned.
Oh no...
A tiny finger was making its way towards the base of the 18 dice tower. Near growled.
"If you so much as lay a particle of a finger on that tower, I'll..."
"You'll what? Call the Professah? He'll laugh it off!" Luke's finger suddenly jabbed into the base of the tower, causing it to collapse onto the table and onto the floor around it.
Near was suddenly on top of Luke, holding the boy's arms down. Luke laughed. Near snarled.
"I warned you..." Luke suddenly looked up at him with big, sad eyes. They had so much innocence within them, Near melted at the sight like one of the many chocolate bars Mello always kept on his person.
Near shyly pecked Luke's lips, finally acting his own age. Luke looked so cute blushing and his hair messy like that and his cap an inch from his head. He was smiling, but unable to make eye contact, probably feeling as shy as Near was at that point.
They stayed like that for a while, not realising the meeting hall door had opened and two very experienced detectives were watching them.
Both suddenly jumped up and shrugged the whole situation off.
"Play fighting." Near commented casually, as Luke looked at the floor.
"Well, come on, we have a lead. A bookshop." The Professor smiled.
Luke and Near followed their idols out of the base and down the streets.
"Hey, Near?" Near looked to Luke who's eyes were still on the ground and his cheeks bright red.
"Yes, Luke?" He whispered back. A small, chubby hand suddenly entered his, stubby fingers slipping between slender ones. Near just smiled and squeezed them.
