It had been two months since Sonic and Rouge had started dating. They were asleep on Sonic's couch. Rouge laid on him and he had his arm her. She woke up and gave Sonic a kiss on the cheek. It woke him up.
SONIC What time is it?
ROUGE 2:30 in the morning.
SONIC Wow, that seemed to go by fast.
ROUGE Everything seems to go by fast with you, you know that?
Sonic chuckled.
SONIC Well, i'm gonna go to the kitchen and get something to eat, ya want something?
ROUGE Nah.
Sonic got up and went to the kitchen. Rouge liked being with Sonic. He was the hero of the entire world and could have chosen ANY girl he wanted, and yet he chose her, a jewel thief of all people. Sonic came back with a sandwich. He sat back on the couch and Rouge leaned on him.
ROUGE Hey, Sonic?
SONIC Yeah, what's up, Rouge?
ROUGE Do you mind that i'm a bat?
SONIC Of course not. I love you for who you are, not what you are.
Rouge sat up.
ROUGE Well, you know who and what I am. I'm a jewel thief, Sonic. You knew that was a risk when we started being together, Sonic!
SONIC What's wrong? Is it something I did?
ROUGE No. It's not you. It's just I'm a little worried about our relationship. I always have been. I'm happy with you, Sonic, but i'm also happy doing things that you are against and I don't want our relationship to fall apart because of that.
SONIC Rouge, I knew the risk I took when I chose you. Tails thought I was getting desperate for a girlfriend and Knuckles wouldn't even speak to me. Amy was furious most of all. She tried using that crazy hammer of her's to beat the love out of me.
ROUGE That girl is weird. I'm not mad at you Sonic, i'm just worried, that's all.
Sonic ate his sandwich.
SONIC (Mouth Full) Well trust me, as long as we love each other we've got nothing to worry about.
ROUGE Sonic, don't talk with your moth full, it's not sexy.
SONIC (Mouth Full) What?
ROUGE Well, you're lucky I didn't choose you for your table manners.
Sonic swallowed.
SONIC So i'm confused. You asked me if I minded that you were a bat. What does that have to do with our being a jewel thief affecting our relationship?
ROUGE It has to do with what I am. And I'm both. So you wouldn't mind if I was a hedgehog?
SONIC No, I wouldn't.
ROUGE So would you like me to be a hedgehog?
SONIC I told you, I like for who you are, not by what you are. And I like who you are.
ROUGE But Sonic... I'm a bad person.
SONIC No, you aren't.
ROUGE I've done bad things, Sonic.
SONIC Everybody's done bad things, even me. It's part of being a person, nobody's perfect. It's what we do to make things right again that matter.
ROUGE Sonic... I love you... but i'm not like you.
SONIC Whatever the differences are between you and me are, it doesn't matter. We're both people, so that's something. Let's see, we're both lovers of freedom. And... we both like to tease people. So you see, we're the same in a lot of ways. If it makes a difference, if you think I see you as a bat, I don't. I see you as my love.
ROUGE You do?
SONIC Of course. You're beautiful. I love you.
Rouge hugged him.
ROUGE I love you, too.
Sonic heard her crying.
SONIC You okay?
ROUGE Yes, i'm fine. I'm trying not to cry, so I can be strong for you.
SONIC Rouge, you are the strongest woman I know. It's okay, let them flow.
Rouge held him tighter.
ROUGE Thank you, Sonic. I'm so relieved. It's like a weight had been lifted from my soul. You... you just saved me.
She gave him a kiss on the cheek.
ROUGE You're my hero.
Sonic smiled.
SONIC I can't stand you feeling sad about yourself.
ROUGE Heehee.
She slowly pinned him down. Sonic blushed.
SONIC Uh, Rouge... what are you doing?
ROUGE I said you were my hero, blue blur. And I meant it.
SONIC Oh boy.
Rouge bent down and kissed him. Sonic kissed back. They slowly wrapped their arms around each other. This was going to be a long morning.
