I am so excited that I am finally back and updating. I've almost got one of my chapter stories finished and am ready to start updating the rest. Well, on to the oneshot.

(Oh, by the way, this is all in Joey's pov.)

Throw In The Water

Mizu ni nagasu. Forgive and Forget. That's what he said to me. I needed him to tell me he loved me. Instead, He told me too forgive him for leaving, and forget he was a part of our lives and move on. How can I do that? Did he understand he was our world? He was our pain, our life, our love, and my death? You loved him as much as I did. Did he ever tell you he loved you? Miss me. I've gone to find him.

Mizu ni nagasu

Yugi

Joey stared at the crumpled note. Up until this point, they all thought it was an accident...Yugi...so close after his passing...Joey couldn't even say his name since...

Emotion threatened to gag him in its ferocity. He sank to his knees slowly and closed his eyes. Involuntarily, his thoughts flashed to the last conversation he and Yugi had shared.

--

"Did he ever say he loved you?" There was so much pain in his bright eyes.

"No." Joey had whispered back. "It wasn't in his nature. He loved us with more than words."

Yugi was so small in his arms. He was cold and trembling with emotion.

"I know, but, why did he never say it?"

"Why is it bothering you so much? He loved you and you knew it. What does it matter?"

He had looked up at him, despairing. "I just needed to hear him say it before...before he left."

Joey had looked back down at him helplessly. Not knowing what to say, Joey pulled him closer and held him as they mourned for a lover lost.

--

Maybe he should have said it.

I love you.

It started as a whisper he didn't even realize he voiced. Then it grew to a murmur.

I love you. Then a shout, "I love you!"

Then he was screaming it at the ceiling, not caring who heard, or what they thought. Tears started and ran down his face, and still he screamed,

"I love you!"

He bellowed out all the pain of losing both his lovers practically at the same time, the uncertainty of his future without them, his anger at their selfishness, the wonder at why it was so easy to voice feelings now, and the quiet guilt all of this caused. He voiced these feelings with three little words.

"I love you! I love you!"

Finally, after what seemed a lifetime, he stopped. The room was quiet again. Using the sound of his own ragged breathing and irregular heartbeat to clam him, he re-read the letter he clutched with trembling hands.

Misu ni nagasu.

Misu ni nagasu.

Throw in the water.

Forgive and Forget.

"Yugi...Atem..." he spoke their names painfully. "I will forgive, but don't dare ask me to forget either of you."

Thanks for reading. It's a little short, but I like it. I just hope I used that phrase correctly.
