The great evil that all thought had been forever sealed away by the Hero of Time...
...once again crept forth from the depths of the earth, eager to resume its dark designs.
It was a dark night in the Sacred Forest Meadow. A destroyed staircase lead up to a doorway into the forest temple. just to the right of the staircase remains was a stump. seated on the stump was a strange forest creature. She wore a long green ankle length dress. Her body appeared to be made of wood. Where her face should have been, there was a mask-like leaf with eye holes. A green circlet of leaves rested on her head. This was Saria, the sage of the forest. She had once been one of a race of eternally young children called kokiri. But the kokiri had evolved over time into plant-like creatures called Koroks. She was currently playing a happy upbeat tune on her ocarina, which she came to call "Saria's Song". Ever since her friend Link had died, Saria had rarely left the Sacred Meadow, content to simply play her ocarina for days at a time. Link was in reality the Hero of Time, but had died two years ago, succumbing to his wounds received from the last battle.
As Saria played her tune, thunder began to rumble in the sky. Thunderous footsteps resounded throughout the forest. Saria looked up from her ocarina into the face of the wicked man standing before her.
Ganondorf.
"Sorry to be interrupting your recital, forest girl!" he sarcastically snarled, before ramming his fist into her chest. Saria tried to let out a scream, but her wooden body could not yet process many vocal expulsions. As she tried to stand up, Ganondorf bolted over to her, and stamped his foot on where her throat would have been had she still been human. Lifting his foot, Ganondorf reached down, wrapped his fingers around Saria's wooden neck, and lifted her up. Knowing it was the end, Saria bowed her head in defeat as her wooden body caught fire.
Looking up, Saria found herself lying in an endless prairie under the sun. "Saria?" a familiar boy's voice called out to her. Looking in the direction it came from, she saw a 16 year old boy. He wore a green pointed hat over symmetrical blond bangs, a green tunic over a white undershirt and white tights, and brown boots. It was Link. Saria slowly walked over to him, and placed a hand on his shoulder. Link spoke. "It doesn't matter if you're a Korok or Kokiri, I still love you." and with that, he kissed Saria on her leaf-face where her lips would have been. She mentally smiled, when suddenly, cracks began to form on her, spreading from the spot where Link had kissed her, all around her body, until finally, she exploded.
When Link lowered his hands from shielding his face, he was shocked. Saria was human again. Her emerald green hair was styled in a bob cut, accompanied by her blue eyes and pointed ears. She wore a green short sleeved mini dress, with a skirt reaching halfway down her thighs. Tied around her waist was a brown lace-up belt. On her feet were green kokiri boots. Saria's body was no longer that of a Kokiri or a Korok, but that of a 16-year old Hylian.
Saria took Link's hand in hers, and smiling, she spoke for the first time in years. "I love you too, Link." before she returned the kiss, passionately locking lips with Link.
