A/N: Emilia here. First actually maybe good story on here. Wrote it for a creative writing assignment, so its not tech fanfiction. Sorry. Also if you like cats, sorry. Anyway, enjoy!
The day was beautiful; birds chirping, sweet smelling breeze, and a sunny morning. Devon walked along his newly purchased plot of land. The worn path he traveled on had wildflowers on both sides. Devon stopped abruptly.
"I don't remember the real estate agent mentioning this old place," Devon spoke aloud with surprise. About fifty yards in front of him was a faded blue cottage with some boarded up windows. He walked briskly to the door. Devon turned the handle slowly, creaking as he turned it. It opened. The door opened with a high-pitched squeak and Devon stepped through the door cautiously. He screamed.
"Oh god. I thought you were an axe murderer or something," he spoke hurriedly to the tiny kitten huddled in the back of the room. He picked up the kitten gently.
"I may have been scared of this cottage before I saw you but now everything's okay," Devon spoke and laughed while he pet the kitten and continued, "This cottage could be really nice with a little paint and some new furniture." He started walking to the door. He closed the door securely behind him and walked to the car, mumbling to the kitten along the way. The kitten mewed softly. Devon would take him to his sister Kate's. She loves cats. First, he had to go to the supermarket before it closed to get some milk.
Devon drove slowly, not wanting to accidently disturb the kitten currently settled, purring, in his lap. Even though he drove slow he still got to the store in under five minutes. Devon tried to leave the kitten in the car but he could be heard mewing through the passenger door. So the kitten came with him into the store with him. Devon got his milk and started towards the check out counter.
"I guess I should give you a name little guy. How about Scream since that's what you made me do you little bugger," he said while chuckling.
In the corner of the supermarket, as he continued to the checkout, a miniscule movement caught Devon's eye. The creature was then upon him. The creature's scaly hand covered his mouth before his brain could even register the panic. They disappeared.
Devon's basket fell to the ground with a thud. Scream mewed for his lost companion as he hit the floor and lay still.
Beware what is in your own backyard...
