Child Of The Moon

He is the pale orb in Jack's night sky and he never tires of watching him, searching for the truth of him. But he is elusive, this child of the moon, for the moon has many phases.

At times, an enigma. A shadowy, unknowable creature, steeped in secrets and mysteries, revealing little of his true nature and emotions. And yet sometimes he is the comforting light in Jack's darkness, anticipating his needs; sensitive and nurturing. In moments like these, Jack believes he could fall and be safe, and he almost lets go.

Impossible to forget, though, that there are occasions when the moon is full. Dangerously bright and unpredictable, the cool mask of calm falling away. He has witnessed, borne the brunt of, the reckless passion; so fierce and horribly, strangely exhilarating. Jack knows he could be caught up, swept away on this tidal wave and must fight to resist or risk losing everything. He has to be ready, alert; cannot afford to be distracted from his search for the keeper of his own truth.

But then again, he has been waiting so very long and his child of the moon is here for him now; is not roaming wild and far away amongst the stars. On nights such as this one, when he turns to him with his crescent-moon smile, eyes twinkling, Jack can accept all his waxings and wanings. Longs to embrace them, infact, anticipating how it will be when they at last move together. For he is certain that they will. A perfect match in many ways, their similarities and differences aligning, their two bodies creating a powerful partnership, no matter how fleeting.

And so still he pursues Ianto. The irony is not lost on Jack. In most ancient mythologies, afterall, the Moon chases after the Sun…
