A Second Chance by Chyna Rose

He looked up from the computer terminal and sighed. Why was it that when one little thing went wrong, the entire world came crashing down. He logged off the Internet and turned off the computer. Philosophy, and his coconspirator would have to wait for another night. Dawn was coming, and with it would be sleep. And sleep often more times then not would bring dreams.
The moon rose high in the night sky. He climbed the cliff face and slowly made his way to the top. She was waiting for him, bathed in an ethereal light. The moon created a halo around her, giving no question as to why she was named what she was. The others used to be jealous of them but it wasn't his fault they literally missed the boat. The trip around the world had thrown them together and nurtured their relationship. After months of forced close contact, it was no wonder they became mates.
And then there was one⦠Where had that thought come from? Sure he had lucked out, but after Alex's birth, two of Angela's rookery sisters had come with lady Titania. They fell in love and decided to stay. The trio had gotten married together for crying out loud!
Suddenly he heard an anguished cry in his head. The pain of loneliness coursed through him. He shook his head. What was happening to him? It was if he was living another life. Names flashed by. Maddox. Liz. Ariana. Images. Claw lying on a table, shot in the chest. John Canmore with serious burns. Gnomes chained together like slaves making sledge hammers. A man looking down on him with concern. The same man, but this time he was looking up with pain as an iron based hammer touched him.
He *knew* these people, had been at those scenes. But yet they were all wrong. He looked up to his love and realized he had stopped climbing. Dawn was fast approaching. He could have sworn he saw a black-haired girl, with angel wings and a gargoyle tail, but she was gone before her eyes.
The sun rose, he thought he heard the words second chance, but he must have dreamed them.
Lexington woke with a roar. He tried to shake the last of the dream away and headed to check his e-mail. When he got there, he saw a letter from Chyna Rose. She wanted to meet him at midnight tomorrow night. Things were finally beginning to look up.
