Draco sat alone in the shadows of the room. It was almost time for the final confrontation, and he found himself unprepared and doubting. How could he have allowed himself to be tied to the Dark Lord? He had known that he would not be able to escape. He refused to sacrifice his family, despite their misdeeds, and so he was forced to be here, on this side.
In this world you tried
Not leaving me alone behind
Harry had looked at him with such despair on that night, the night that he had known he had to leave, but refused to say it. Somehow Harry had known. He did not want to see Harry in pain, so he had turned away. And now he dreaded the possibility of it being his final view of Harry alive.
There's no other way
I prayed to the gods let him stay
He had always mocked the Gryffindors for their weak susceptibilities; the way they would look back and wish for better times. Now he knew better.
The memories ease the pain inside
Now I know why
He sighed as he remembered. Harry had always been a snuggler. On their first night together he had felt such bliss. Lying beside Harry in a comfortable mess of pillows and blankets, he had felt him burrow his head into his shoulder and hum in happiness. Hair tossed in disarray and eyes glowing, he was so beautiful.
All of my memories keep you near
In silent moments, imagine you'd be here
When he had come back from the manor after one of his numerous encounters with his father's fists, he remembered the tears. Bright diamond droplets that had fallen from Harry's eyes as he had cradled him in his arms. He had felt so loved.
All of my memories keep you near
Your silent whispers, silent tears
One of their nights together, the sleepy pillow talk was whispered words of reassurance. He would always be there for me and I for him. he had made him promise to come back.
Made me promise I'd try
To find my way back in this life
Draco remained numb as he was led to the apparation point. He was trying to remember why he was doing this. No. He couldn't do it. He couldn't allow himself to remain with the ones who would harm his love.
With a cry he broke free from the arm holding him, and apparated to his soul. To Harry.
Reminds me again it's worth it all
So I can go home
The curses raged as lights flashed from wands. Soundless screams from the dying, lost words from the dead. They stood back to back in the center of it all. Yin and yang. Together.
All of my memories keep you near
In silent moments, imagine you'd be here
All of my memories keep you near
Your silent whispers, silent tears
And yet, he felt no fear. No doubt. He was where he was meant to be, and he knew Harry felt the same with the way their bodies moved around each other. Synchronized.
Together in these memories
I see you smile
He felt a sudden sharp pain, and looking down, he saw the last of the green spell sink into his chest. Emerald green, the same color as Harry's eyes, he thought.
Images flashed before his eyes. Bright joyful eyes, a happy smile on pink lips, the scarlet of a Gryffindor scarf, diamond tears. He remembered being happy, and that was what was important.
All of my memories I hold dear
Darling, you know I'll love you till the end of time
As his vision faded he heard the anger in Harry's voice as at last he destroyed his enemy. He heard the rustle of cloth as he sank to his knees beside him. He heard the soft whisper of words.
"I love you."
All of my memories keep you near
In silent whispers, imagine you'd be here
All of my memories keep you near
Your silent whispers, your silent tears.
