He looked around at the Austrian countryside, marveling at the vivid colors.
He thought about how everything during war seemed to be shrouded in black and white, almost as if it were a film. There was only one thing that stood out on that colorless canvas. Blood. The red seeped out, dominating everything around it.
When they had announced the war's end, it had been like someone had flipped a switch. The green of the grass, the sparkling blue of the lake, shining from the glare of a bright light.
It was a brilliant escape from the black and white.
