This Wasn't Supposed To Happen

Joshua Rosen stared at the images on his computer in confusion. It wasn't true. Amy was wrong.

He didn't want to secretly date Dyl, he certainly didn't want to take her to the spring formal, and in fact he didn't want anything to do with her. Well, apart from finishing his film project and winning.

Aside from that Z. I. P. Zip, nothing.

Stop talking like Dyl, he told himself.

Dyl.

Since when had he started thinking of her as Dyl? She was Dylan Schoenberg, the most popular girl in school and way out of his league. Sure, she was funny, smart and not to mention very pretty but still she was one of the 'populars' and he was a geek.

Still, he liked her. Who wouldn't? She was a very likeable person once you past the whole diva persona but that was all. He remembered how he'd felt when he had realized that she wasn't in the room anymore the whole party had suddenly become so boring. Somehow she had become the first person he thought of going to for advice and he trusted her. Plus his mom really liked her and her dad liked him.

Stop. You're not supposed to be doing that. You're supposed to be finding reasons – and there are plenty – why you two can't work out.

Josh stopped staring at Dyl's image on the screen and began to get ready for the Spring Formal. He hadn't thought that he'd be attending and he really wasn't one for dancing but he needed to be there for Dyl whatever happened.
