"OK everyone, I apologise for the smell in here, but we've recently had an infestation of some kind of bug, so this morning someone sprayed like seven cans of anti bug stuff around... so yeah, on with the meeting!" America announced, fist punching thin air. A murmur ran through the other countries, and one or two people shivered. Japan started fidgeting, glancing around to see if there were any pests near him. He hated bugs; always had and probably always will. His gaze flicked upwards to see China looking at him with a questioning look, mouthing 'do you want to leave?' Japan shook his head and tried to smile, probably accidentally grimacing in the process. His hand made its way up to his face and he started biting his thumb nervously.
"OK dudes, the first matter of business isss..." America rifled through the pieces of paper until he picked one out that had a large star drawn badly in yellow highlighter. "Uhhh that looks boring... How about-" He was interrupted by a loud scream from the opposite side of the table. Everyone jumped and looked around, just in time to see Japan jump from his seat and fling himself at China, who fell backwards on his chair onto the floor. On the table in front of Japan's seat was a huge, black cockroach with massive legs and a shining back. China struggled to sit up, then put one arm around Japan, gently rubbing his back, trying to comfort him by whispering in Chinese. Japan was crying into his older brother's chest, clinging to him like a limpet.
A huge crunch sounded in the conference hall as a large metal pipe was smacked onto the cockroach, squashing it flat. Russia raised his pipe and tucked it into his belt, giggling at the odd noise it had made.
"Uhh... is Japan OK?" Italy's small voice piped up from a few seats down from where Russia was standing. China nodded.
"Ever since Japan was a kid he's had a terrible fear of cockroaches. When he was young he accidentally locked himself in the cellar which was infested with them, and I didn't find him until the morning after, aru." Italy shivered and grabbed Germany's arm, remembering a similar experience he had when he was a child- except Austria had shut him in the cellar for ruining one of his many meetings.
A soft whimper emitted from Japan and he shifted slightly, still sitting on China's lap. "It's OK Japan, the cockroach has gone."
"Re... really?" Japan whispered quietly.
"Yes, Russia killed it, aru." Japan blinked and drew back from China, slowly standing up. He put out his hand to help his brother up, then turned to Russia, who was holding his pipe over his shoulder and smiling. If it wasn't Russia that smile would be cute.
"Um... Thankyou, Russia-san..." He bowed slightly. Russia grinned and tilted his head to one side.
"Hehe, you're welcome Japan! Any other problems, just tell me, da?" Japan smiled slightly and nodded. He then turned his head to one side and saw everyone staring at him.
He blushed a deep scarlet and mumbled "Uh... I'm... I'm sorry I kinda ruined the meeting..." America grinned sheepishly.
"It's OK dude! If ya wanna leave, you can." Japan shook his head and went to go and sit down, but he felt someone grab his wrist and he was pulled onto someone's lap. He turned his head, his blush not fading, to see China smiling at him.
"There uh... may be more cockroaches... aru..." Japan nodded, then turned away. A few other Nations giggled at the second oldest country sitting on his big brother's lap, but the laughter soon ceased and all heads turned to America, who was looking at Japan almost longingly. When he realised everyone was looked at him he jumped slightly and started sorting his papers again.
"OK, so first order of business..."
