[A/N]: Finally caught up. This one's for today. Enjoy!

I stared at the screen, brain seeing the images but not really comprehending them. The Avengers, once so mighty and unstoppable, were fighting one another. How was that helping anything? Why were they split in half?

The Avengers were the best humanity had to offer, and I was losing faith in them if they couldn't hold it together after one little dispute. Humanity is supposed to be stronger than that. Stronger together. It was practically our motto.

This has been going on for several days, perhaps even a week. I hear lots of talk about it at work, and people are choosing sides. Team Iron Man or Team Captain America. They're treating it like it's a game. But it's not a game. It's the future of this planet's protection, and I don't think people understand that. This is bigger than Iron Man or Captain America. It's bigger than petty rivalries. It's bigger than just about anything. It's this planet's future, our future, the future of the human race. If our heroes fall, we are unprotected and vulnerable. We can't stand against alien foes like they can. We need them.

I shut off the television. I can't watch this. I can't watch it knowing that one way or another, life will never be the same again after it's finished. This...changes everything. Even the Avengers may not realize it yet, but they can never go back to the way they were before.

Inspired by the absolutely terrific John Williams' 'Rey's Theme'. Not my usual style for writing, but it gave me the inspiration I needed.
