Alright, I wrote this in my notebook some time ago. Decided to publish the beginning, to see what you think about it. Then we'll see how it will continue, I'm not quite sure of that yet.

Demeter saw a figure going through the trashcans. He was thin and his ginger fur was dusty. Something made Demeter interested in this stranger, and she moved towards him. The ginger tom turned around and eyed her. His eyes were filled with sorrow and pain.

"What are you looking for?" Demeter asked him. No answer. "Are you looking for food?" The tom looked as if he had an inner struggle with himself. Then finally he nodded, slowly.

"I can get you food. Wait here, I'll be right back." Demeter didn't know why she did it, she just felt as she had to help him. She ran and got some food from the junkyard's supply. When she got back there was no sign of the tom. Demeter felt a bit disappointed. Then he suddenly came out from the shadows. He didn't come any closer but kept his eyes at the food. Demeter put it down on the ground and backed away. The tom approached carefully and started eating.

"Demeter!" She could hear her mother's voice call from a distant.

"I have to go", she told the tom. "I can give you more tomorrow if you want". She left as the tom watched her go. The next day Demeter found him at the same place. She watched this lonely, different creature as he ate. The days passed by and the tom looked healthier each day. One day when she gave him the food a voice broke the silence.

"Thank you." Demeter first looked around to see who had talked, and then realized that it must have been the ginger tom.

"You can talk?" She asked surprised.

"Of course."

"Why haven't you done it earlier?"

"I was weak. I concentrated on the important things, speaking is not one of them."

"What's your name?"

"Macavity."
