The sun had set a long time ago, the moon now standing in its place, illuminating the night sky along with the stars that twinkled brightly. Everything and everyone was asleep in Feudal Japan except for a few nocturnal creatures and Sesshomaru who walked in the night as the moon guided him wherever his feet seemed to take him. He soon stopped at a clearing where he spotted Naraku, the half-spider demon and his sworn enemy.
Naraku didn't seem to notice his presence behind him or chose not to. Either option was fine with the full bloodied dog demon because both gave him the opportunity to kill the half-spider demon. But oddly enough, he didn't take it and sat down beside Naraku who continued to gaze up at the moon.
Sesshomaru glanced at him, and almost instantly, something caught his eyes as it glinted in the moonlight. A knife was being held in the half-spider demon's grasp. He didn't have to glance at it to know it was covered in blood because the scent consumed the air, radiating off of both the knife and Naraku himself, which could only mean the half-spider demon had stabbed himself earlier and when he made a move in doing the deed again. Sesshomaru grabbed his wrist, causing the knife to slip out of his grasp.
The half spider demon glanced at the full bloodied dog demon with empty crimson eyes. "Lord Sesshomaru..." he said, sounding as empty as his eyes reflected. "Let me go."
"No." Sesshomaru stated his golden eyes meeting with the half-spider demon's crimson ones. "Is there a reason why you are trying to take your own life?"
Instead of answering, Naraku glanced at his lap and said nothing. A frown edged onto the full bloodied dog demon's lips. Sesshomaru did not expect this to happen. What he excepted was the half-spider demon to say something, anything that would make things go back to normal because this...this was not normal.
To further prove his point, Naraku bit his lip and spoke. "Kill me."
Sesshomaru was slightly taken back. "What?"
"Kill me," Naraku repeated slowly as if he were talking to a small child.
"No,"
"Then. Let. Me. Go."
"I won't." Sesshomaru stated firmly, tightening his grip around the half-spider demon's wrist.
Then Naraku did the unexcepted: he started crying. Broken sobs filling the once silent night. "P-please.. just let me d-die..." The half spider demon choked out in between sobs. "I-I...can't take this anymore."
The full bloodied dog demon's eyes slightly widened. Was Naraku actually crying or was this one of his sick jokes? If this was Sesshomaru was not going to fall for it. "Cut the act, Naraku," he hissed coldly. "You are not fooling me."
But again, instead of doing what the full bloodied dog demon excepted. The half spider demon cried harder every sob racking his frame. Sesshomaru's frown deepened. He was still not convinced that Naraku of all people was breaking down in front of him.
So, the full bloodied dog demon placed a hand underneath the half-spider demon's chin and glanced into his eyes that were filled with nothing but sorrow and tears. Sesshomaru wiped a tear. He could feel the wetness of it on his finger, telling him it was as real as the rest that fell from Naraku's eyes.
Now that the full bloodied dog demon knew that the half-spider demon was indeed crying, Sesshomaru did not know how to deal with it. But then he remembered what Jaken did when Rin cried; the full bloodied dog demon hugged him.
However, once Sesshomaru felt something wet on his clothes that were not tears, he let go of Naraku and was suspired to find that he was still bleeding from the wound he had inflicted on himself earlier.
"Your wound is not healing," Sesshomaru pointed out.
Naraku, who finally stopped crying, went back to glancing at his lap and said nothing.
The full bloodied dog demon pressed his lips together. Something was wrong about this whole situation. The half spider demon was not acting like his usual self and in some twisted way, Sesshomaru felt concerned.
God...the world was probably ending because he, the lord of the west, never felt concerned for anyone until now.
This was ridiculous...
"Naraku..."
This time the half-spider demon glanced at him. "Why?" he asked, chewing his bottom lip, acting more out of character than before.
The full bloodied dog demon raised an eyebrow. "Why? What?"
A frown appeared on Naraku's face. "Why won't you kill me?" He played with the sleeve of his blue yukata, feeling uncomfortable about this whole situation.
'I don't know...' Sesshomaru thought before saying. "And why do you want to die so bad? What's happened to you that's made you stoop so low?"
Naraku scoffed, his mood changing like a chameleon changing its colour. "And why do you even care?"
"I pity you." The full bloodied dog demon told him, loosening his grip around the half-spider demon's wrist. "You have the sacred jewel and yet...you're still empty."
Naraku scowled, glaring at him. "I am not empty!" He growled, prying his wrist out of Sesshomaru's grasp.
"Oh?" The full bloodied dog demon tilted his head to the side. "Then why do you want to die?"
"Shut up!" The half spider demon spat, through clenched teeth. "Shut up!" He pulled his knees close to his chest and buried his face into them. "You...know nothing." Naraku sniffed quietly. "I-I...never asked for any of this."
Sesshomaru opened his mouth to say something but chose not to. Instead, the full bloodied dog demon pulled the half-spider demon into his embrace this time, ignoring how Naraku's blood stained his clothes because that no longer mattered.
What mattered was trying to figure out was wrong with him.
Why was he falling apart?
