It's a Vampire's Life For Me.

This chapter has not got Buffy in it, but it leads up to the third chapter, and Buffy is in the second chapter. Enjoy, and R&R!

The metal of the blades clashed together. A glowing spot of red appeared from the heat which caused friction. The two sword weilders pushed off each other and stepped backwards.

"Well done, boys. A grand training session today," an elderly man congradulated. He had a snow white beard, pale skin and eyes of the coldest blue.

The teenagers bowed their heads to their master and walked away together, swords in hands.

"See ya!" they shouted in chorus.

"Kai, don't drag it on the floor!" The town chief dug his neck in his shoulders, listenong to the sound of metal against concrete.

"Sorry!"

Zayr, the violet haired boy with Kai, sighed "I think we deserve a well-earned treat, don't you?"

"Depends on what you have in mind."

"Kai. What's a vampires favourite delicacy?"

"I don't know," Kai replied in differently.

Zayr clenched his fist and rolled his eyes "Does 'blood' ring a bell?"

"Yeh, but your a diabetic vampire."

"Kai, that doesn't mean i can't drink the red stuff! I've just got to be careful, is all! Oh for Satans sake, PICK YOUR FREAKING SWORD UP!"

"Shut up, Zayr." He stopped "I have enough of that from Zsyran."

"God damn right you should, too. It drives me barmy! Now, lets get home and shower. I reek of wet dog..."

Kai giggled "Nothing unusual, then"

The blue haired teen collapsed onto his bed. "Yeah, check you later, Zayr. Nice one. Bye."

Kai hung up and gazed at the ceiling. Life coundn't get much better, yet at the same rime it couldn't get any worse. The life of a vampire is both idyllic and oppressive.

"Sleep...Need sleep.." Kai whined "Oh, man"

He sat up again, searching for somthing to occupy himself. he spotted his blooed stained sword.

"That could do with a good clean."

"Kai!" bellowed his mother. "Don't forget to change your bandages!"

"Man, why does Zayr have to go full circle all the time?"After cleaning his blade until it sparkled and putting on a new piece of gauze, he layed his head down on his pillow and closed his eyes, praying for sleep, which eventully came.

It was a short lived however as a low roll of thunder boomed from a flash of lightening that filled the midnight sky. Kai woke with a start.

"A storm?" He wearily rubbed his eyes "Again?"

Kai jumped, noticing Zayr sat on the end of his bed, swinging a set of keys on his finger.

"It's not a storm. It is, but it's not natural." Zayr walked to the door. "Come on."

Obediently he followed.

'Something's not right. Zayr's not right. It's like he's in some kind of a trance."

The pair made thier way to the very edge of the town of Xanden and onto the pier.

"What in the world is THAT?" Kai said.

"This is our ticket out of here."

"What are you talking about?"

"Don't you want to see what another realm looks like, Kai? It could be much better than this," Zayr explained. "We need to go now. We can't let fear hold us back. W e needn't be afraid of the darkness!"

Kai bit his lip. "Zayr."

"Kai...Let's do this."

He looked deep into Zayr's eyes and nodded. "Yeah. Let's do this."

They took a deep breath and passed through the black portal swirling in front of them, together.
