A/N: I just love this song from Wicked, and I thought that this situation was about as close as I could get in a songfic. Personally I never liked Cleon—but tell me if you like it! Or hate it, or just like the song!
I'm Not that Girl
Hands
touch, eyes meet
Sudden silence, sudden heat
Hearts leap in a
giddy whirl
He could be that boy
But I'm not that girl
Kel couldn't help but notice the way she was still acting whenever she was around Cleon of Kennan. She'd thought herself over him, yet when they'd met at the palace all her old feelings had come rushing back with a simple hug. No matter that she might have loved him she knew he was still most definitely taken, by a lady of the court, and she was definitely no lady.
Don't
dream too far
Don't lose sight of who you are
Don't remember
that rush of joy
He could be that boy
I'm not that girl
When she went to sleep that night she couldn't help her dream. That she was a lady of the court herself, getting to be with Cleon. Feeling that rush of passion every time they could steal kisses with each other at balls. Then she woke up.
Ev'ry
so often we long to steal
To the land of what-might-have-been
But
that doesn't soften the ache we feel
When reality sets back in
To Kel it felt like everywhere she looked there Cleon was, and she couldn't help dreaming of what could have happened if things had been different. Then one day when she looked up he was staring at her, and as she met his gaze, she knew it wasn't just her dreaming.
Blithe
smile, lithe limb
She who's winsome, she wins him
Gold hair
with a gentle curl
That's the girl he chose
And Heaven
knows
I'm not that girl
Kel would never forget the day his betrothed arrived at the palace. She was a true court beauty with beautiful flowing hair, and when Cleon saw her he immediately brightened. It broke Kel's heart to realize that soon Cleon wouldn't be thinking about her anymore. He had his own court lady.
Don't wish,
don't start
Wishing only wounds the heart
I wasn't born for the
rose and the pearl
There's a girl I know
He loves her so
I'm
not that girl
That night as Kel got ready for bed she couldn't say how much she would miss hearing that she was the "pearl of his heart", but she vowed that she wouldn't let herself dream of Cleon of Kennan anymore. She wasn't a beautiful court lady, she was a knight. She knew she was meant for many things in life, and just maybe she was meant to be with someone else.
