summary: Joe's father is getting more and more abusive, and with Jim away from home, Joe is

*Crack* "everything I do is for you!" *Thump* "I've given you a home!" *Slap* "clothing"
*Thud* "I gave you LIFE!!" *Thud* "and THIS is how you repay me!" *Thump* "Your worthless."
Joe Kido listened to his fathers receding footsteps from his cautious vantage point on
the cold linolium floor. He had been drunk again. Viciously so. The front door slammed, and
Joe raised himself, dazedly, off the floor. Panting, he blinked away tears of pain and drew
his knees up until he was on all fours, the full body ache he harboured was slightly forgotten
as he tried to stand. Big mistake. He thudded backwards against the cupboards his dad had
been kicking him against and tried to regain his lost breath and equilibrium. Joe assesed
his injuries as he rested. Nothing was broken, else he wouldnt have gotten up this far.
Everything was bruised. His ribs especially. Joe's breathing hadn't quieted. He needed his
inhaler. Slowly, the blue haired boy dragged himself up to a stand, using the kitchen
counter as leverage. His moved as quickly as possible, first to his bedroom for his puffer
then out the front door. He had to. His father would be home soon.
2 days later
The digidestined fluttered around the park, like so many butterflies in a flower field.
Tai kicked a soccorball relentlessly, not giving poor Izzy any slack. Yamato leaned against
a tree trying to be a sauve and cool as possible, despite his friends lack of concern for
his social stature, as well as nobody else being in the vicinity they played in. Kari was
picking small yellow dandilions and daises from a patch in the thick velvety grass. TK was
chasing a fat little bumblebee despite shouted warnings from an anxious Sora, and Mimi, well
Mimi herself sat on a pink blanket, surprisingly enough, reading. Bathed in sunlight and
surrounded by wild flowers, she painted a beautiful picture. And she was aware of it. Joe
felt as he stumbled across this peaceful scene. Tai glanced up and saw Joe standing at the
edge of the clearing "Joe!!" he grinned happily "We called you, but you werent home. Glad
you found us!" Joe hadn't meant to find them, he was just wandering the park. "uh, hey guys
whats up?" The others smiled, shouted greetings or waved, and Joe was officially welcome.
"Looking for a place to sit down, out of the grass. (Allergies) Joe spotted Mimi again.
taking several long steps, his growing, lanky form useful in some aspects, he neared the
shimmering brunette. "Hi Mimi" he mumbled shyly. Mimi glanced up, did a doubletake,
and blushed. "Hi Joe, um, wanna sit down?" Joe nodded and Mimi moved, making room for Joe's
long body. She noticed the azure haired teen wince and eyed him cautiously. "Joe?" He looked
guilty, and glanced away. "Yea?" Her eyes were so wonderful, Joe thought absently,
blushing steadily. "Are you ok?" Joe nodded quickly, "I-I fell, clumsy me, and um-uh,
bruised my ribs. Stupid me." Mimi nodded slowly, surprising Joe when she brushed a fallen
blue lock of hair out off his forhead. "Alright Joe. I was just worried" She returned to her
novel, leaving Joe to leisurly watch the only girl he'd ever love, and wonder about the only
father he'd ever had or ever hated.
