Dual Soul
Prologue
He felt sick to his stomach as his vision swam. Ignoring the way moving his eyes made him feel worse he looked around himself apprehensively. How could it be that he was still alive? Had the jutsu failed? Had he failed to seal the demon fox? Surely not. At least he hoped with every bit of his soul that it was not so.
When his sight settled a bit, he couldn't help but step back, shocked.
The village. It was whole. Nothing was destroyed, as if the fox had never been. Yet despite the way it looked like the Konoha he had known, he felt the taint of unfamiliarity as he looked around. The trees had not been quite that tall or the buildings so numerous.
This simply could not be happening.
Was it possible that maybe, just maybe, the fox had been sealed without taking his life? He tightened his hands into fists. No, he knew that he had performed the jutsu perfectly. He should be dead.
Suddenly something that he should have noticed at the beginning stopped his fatalistic thoughts. Everything was, well… bigger and taller. Not the way that it would be if something had actually gotten bigger, but that his perspective had changed. It was lower. A lot lower. And he was standing on very solid, very flat ground.
Then a strange and impossible thought came to him. He almost laughed had the situation for him not been so serious. There was just no way he could have possibly have shrunk. Then again he seemed to be alive.
"Naruto!" he spun at the sound of the name, his eyes darting everywhere. His heart started beating loudly in his ears, but all he saw to his disappointment was a pink haired girl. Maybe twelve year's old or so and looking straight at him.
To his surprise she was also giving him a highly annoyed look. What could he have possibly done to earn such a look from this girl? She walked up to him, and to his mortification he noted that he had to tilt his head just the tiniest bit to meet her in the eye. So he had shrunk…
He shook his head, what was he thinking? Why was he worrying about his height when he should be worrying about why he wasn't dead? He turned his back on the girl, he had far more important things to do then deal with her. As soon as he turned around she smacked him across the head.
He was so unprepared for that that all he could do was stare at her in complete surprise.
"Explain yourself. Why didn't you come to practice?" she said. Her green eyes narrowed in anger when he did not answer. "Well?"
"I don't—," he said and stopped. His heart started beating fast again. His voice was something that belonged to a child not a man. He looked at his hands, so small. He looked to the rest of his body, he was wearing something loud and orange, and it was clearly that of a child.
Unexpectedly she rolled her eyes, "stop kidding around Naruto. Let's go. Kakashi-sensei is waiting for us."
His mind went completely blank as she spoke. Naruto. Kakashi-sensei. It replayed in his mind like a broken record. How was it possible? Why was she calling him of all people Naruto? This had to be some kind of sick joke. This had to be hell.
A flash of pain interrupted his thoughts and darkness started to cling to the edges of his vision. He dropped on his knees as the pain intensified. His vision split in two and his world went dark.
